Climate change causes an increase in rice plant pests, one of them is brown planthopper. The effort through an assembly of black rice potential lines was made by mutation induction of Cempo Ireng black rice, but it’s only able to shorten the age of plant without being able to improve rice resistance to brown planthopper. Jeliteng as a new high yielding variety of black rice that is resistant to brown planthopper biotype 1 makes it worthy of being a potential parent source. Reciprocal crosses needed to be carried out to get offspring that have superior traits from both parents. This research aims to get F1 generation from the potential lines of black rice crossing with the Jeliteng variety and their reciprocals to improve local varieties of black rice. The research was conducted in the experimental field of the village of Gawanan, Sukoharjo Regency from August 2020 to April 2021. The planting materials were the Jeliteng variety as male parents while 6 potential lines of black rice 8, 13, 44, 46, 51, 52, and Cempo Ireng variety as female parents. Crosses were conducted by hand crossing technique on 14 sets. The data were analyzed descriptively and using the Chi-square test. The results showed that the crossing set could be crossed and produced fertile F1 generation. The length of grain, the width of grain, and the weight of a grain of the F1 varied in all sets. The skin colour of the F1 generation in all sets was mostly straw yellow with brown spots.

Coffee is one of the export commodities in Indonesia. East Java is one of the largest Coffee supplies with land that is widely spread, such as in Malang and Pasuruan Regencies. The agroforestry system is applied in coffee cultivation, the system has different management from plantations for example the use of shade trees which will affect the structure of aerial insect diversity. Aerial insects play an important role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. The research objective was to determine the diversity and dominance of aerial insects in coffee agroforestry in East Java. The research method is exploratory, taking aerial insects using a yellow pan trap. The abiotic factors observed were light intensity, wind speed, temperature and humidity, and data analysis with past 4.03 program. The results of the study found 407 individuals in Dampit coffee agroforestry and 470 individuals in Purwodadi coffee agroforestry. The diversity and dominance index values were found to be the highest in Dampit coffee agroforestry. From the results of the analysis of abiotic factors, it is found that temperature and humidity in Dampit coffee agroforestry have higher values while wind speed and sunlight intensity of Purwodadi coffee agroforestry have higher values. The differences in the number and types of insects as well as the differences in the diversity and dominance index obtained, explained that the two study sites had differences in abiotic factors and shade trees.

Pelagodoxa henryana Becc. (Arecaceae) berasal dari Pulau Marquesas (Polinesia Perancis). Menurut Daftar Merah IUCN, status konservasi jenis ini adalah kritis (Critically Endangered-CR). Pertumbuhan enam spesimen koleksi ini di Kebun Raya Bogor (KRB) mengalami kendala karena faktor lingkungan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis kesesuaian habitat dan identifikasi hama penyakit yang menyerang P. henryana di KRB. Data lingkungan tumbuh diperoleh dari Unit Registrasi KRB dan observasi langsung. Data tanah diperoleh dari hasil analisis sembilan sampel tanah dari lokasi tumbuh palem ini di KRB. Data hama penyakit dikumpulkan melalui pengamatan langsung. Seluruh data dianalisis secara deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kondisi lingkungan di KRB menyerupai habitat alami palem ini, kecuali faktor naungan saja, sehingga perlu pemberian naungan agar paparan sinar matahari pada P. henryana dapat terjadi secara bertahap. Berdasarkan hasil analisis tanah, status kesuburan dan tekstur tanah di KRB kurang cocok untuk P. henryana, sehingga diperlukan pemberian pupuk dengan rasio N:P:K:Mg = 2:1:3:1, pemberian mulsa pada pangkal batang, dan pemberian kapur pertanian. Ada beberapa hama dan penyakit yang ditemukan pada palem ini, namun demikian kumbang janur dan kumbang nipah merupakan hama yang memberikan serangan yang paling signifikan. Kedua kumbang tersebut dapat dikendalikan dengan pemberian belerang dengan dosis satu sendok makan per liter air pada pucuk koleksi dengan gejala dan menginjeksikan pestisida dengan bahan aktif asefat 75% (AMCOTHENE 75 SP) dengan dosis 20 ml/pohon. Pemeliharaan rutin dapat dilakukan dengan memotong bagian-bagian tumbuhan yang sudah mati dan berwarna kecokelatan dengan hati-hati.
