The present study investigates the semantic correspondence in the Hindi translation equivalents of compositional English verb-particle constructions (EVPCs) with the particle up. The compositional constructions include the directional and aspectual functions of particles. The study concentrates on the semantic representation of literal spatial directional and aspectual completive functions of the particle up in Hindi, a major Indian language. The researchers selected some frequent EVPCs, took examples from the British National Corpus and manually translated them into Hindi with the help of relevant dictionaries and corpus resources, including native speaker intuitions. Further, the obtained Hindi translational equivalents were analyzed for morphosyntactic structure and semantic correspondence. The study found that the compositional EVPCs are mapped in Hindi by simple(v) and complex verb constructions(verb/noun/adjective/adverb-verb). The spatial directional sense of the particle up is either lexicalized in the simple Hindi verb or polar verb (v1) of the Hindi compound verb(v1-v2), whereas in Hindi conjunct verb constructions, this directional sense is explicitly realized as a verbal modifier (generally adverb). The vector verb (v2) of the Hindi compound verb appears to map the aspectual-completive sense of the respective particle.

Vocabulary is considered as the most essential part for students in English learning including those who are learning English for Tourism. The reason behind this is that nothing can be conveyed both in written or spoken language without vocabulary. Some researchers attempted to apply some strategies and approaches to assist the students in gaining vocabulary mastery. One of the ways is by using a corpus-based approach. However, to understand the corpus data need huge effort if the students have a lack of vocabulary due to the complexity of the language used. For that reason, the use of the online dictionary is required that eases the students to seek the meaning of unfamiliar words in the corpus. The researcher aims to know the students’ responses on integrating online corpus and dictionary to expand English vocabulary for tourism after conducting experimental research to the fourth semester of hospitality students in 8 meetings. In the treatments given, the researcher only focused on 100 words which were considered as unfamiliar words selected from articles in tourism fields. The questionnaires were distributed to recognize what they perceived after the integration of online corpus and the online dictionary. The result showed that the students responded positively to the use of the online dictionary while learning vocabulary through online corpus as the students could understand the corpus data presented better than without the use of online dictionary and they could broaden their vocabulary.

Current studies indicate that corpus-aided translation teaching may greatly improve teaching efficiency and better fulfill the stated teaching aim. On the basis of those findings, this research looks into the design and construction of a platform-based corpus for tourism translation teaching in an attempt to clarify its aims and objectives, data alignment method, data annotation system, function keying-scheme, upgrading and maintenance mechanism, and so on. Taking into consideration the specific features of tourism translation, this article discusses the application of such an enriched corpus, an extension of or addition to the current corpus-based teaching platform Textwells in practical tourism translation classrooms, and tries to work out a preferable teaching mode inspired by task-based teaching and designed to work in close conjunction with the said corpus-based teaching platform, so as to encourage student initiative and foster their participation in learning.
