Abstract:Women drug comsumption is a phenomenom influenced by speeches regarding gender relationships and standardizing social structures. This study aims to analyze the representational dimension of female drug users through the social representation theory; it is a qualitative, descriptive field study with 45 women admitted to therapeutic communities and rehabilitation clinics in the states of Paraíba and Pernambuco, Brazil. This study uses a sociodemographic questionnaire and a semi-structured interview, which were submitted to qualitative textual analysis using IRAMUTEQ software. The results indicate that the female drug user is represented as someone who presents a threat and lacks self-control; anchored in representational elements concerning the transgression of social norms, she is considered to have set herself apart from the social roles assigned to women. Such images projected in society and shared by the users affect the manner in which they address chemical dependency and have consequences for their inclusion in their families and society, their expression of identity and the manner in which they perform social roles. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a dimensão representacional acerca da mulher usuária de drogas a partir da Teoria das Representações Sociais. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, de caráter descritivo e de campo, com 45 usuárias em tratamento. Utilizou-se entrevista semiestruturada, submetida à análise textual com uso do software IRAMUTEQ. Os resultados indicaram que a mulher usuária de drogas está representada como alguém que oferece perigo e que não tem o controle de si, ancorada em elementos representacionais objetivados na ruptura de comportamentos pautados nas normas sociais, distanciando-se, assim, dos papéis sociais atribuídos ao feminino. Tais representações postas na sociedade e compartilhadas pelas usuárias têm impacto na forma como elas lidam com a dependência química, repercutindo na inclusão sociofamiliar destas mulheres, na expressão de sua identidade e no exercício de seus papéis sociais. Objective To estimate the prevalence and factors associated with the effect of alcohol on crack cocaine use and to analyze experiences related to combined use. Materials and methods: sequential mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) research, carried out between August 2014 and August 2015 with people who use crack. In the quantitative approach, a cross-sectional study was conducted with 1,062 participants. Factors associated with “alcohol use with the effect of increasing the effect of crack/crack craving” were estimated by multiple regression. In the qualitative approach, 39 interviews were conducted using Bardin’s content analysis technique. Results 871 (82.0%) participants reported consuming alcohol, among them, 668 (76.7%) used alcohol combined with crack: 219 (32.8%) reported feeling an effect of reduction in paranoia and/or crack craving and 384 (57.5%) reported feeling an increase in the effect of crack and in the craving to consume the drug. This relationship was also observed in the narratives of the people who use crack, with the possibility of a cyclic effect of consumption of the two substances. Those who related alcohol use to the effect of increasing crack craving (384) were more likely to use alcohol before crack (OR: 1.81; 95%CI: 1.13–2.89); to consume more than 20 stones daily (OR: 1.48; 95%CI: 1.01–2.16); to remain in abstinence from crack for less than one month (OR: 3.20; 95%CI: 1.91–5.35); to use dependence treatment services (OR: 1.85; 95%CI: 1.26–2.71); and to commit physical violence (OR:1.67; 95%CI:1.08–2.56). Conclusion The findings of this study indicate that the modulation of the effect of alcohol use on crack cocaine depends on the moment when the drugs are consumed, and the use of alcohol before crack consumption is associated with characteristics that suggest a greater vulnerability to patterns of harmful crack use. Even though combined use is referred to as a way of reducing the negative effects of crack, the damage of this association may be greater than its possible benefits.

Objective: to recognize villages as territories of care and daily resistance to social marginalization. Methods: a descriptive study with a qualitative approach based on the methodological framework of ethnography inspired by Interpretative Anthropology. Two-year field research (from the second half of 2015 to the first half of 2017). Participant observation and semi-structured interviews with four privileged interlocutors and a field diary have been used. Data systematization was carried out throughout field work. Results: three categories emerged: Interlocutors talking about their life in villages; Villages as a care device; and Drugs in villages. Final considerations: the results reveal the challenge for health and nursing to recognize the need to understand the contexts of urban life of homeless persons. Nurses need to include cultural elements in their work processes, promoting bonding and understanding the ways of life of homeless persons.
