SummaryRosacea is a common chronic skin disease distributed primarily around the central face. Ocular manifestations of rosacea are poorly studied, and estimates of prevalence vary widely, ranging from 6% to 72% in the rosacea population. Treatment options for ocular rosacea include lid hygiene, topical and oral antibiotics, cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion, oral vitamin A derivatives, and intense pulsed light; however, a direct comparison of treatment methods for ocular rosacea is lacking. This review aims to compare treatment efficacy and adverse events for different treatment modalities in ocular rosacea. We performed a systematic review by searching Cochrane, MEDLINE and Embase. Title, abstract, full text screening, and data extraction were done in duplicate. Sixty‐six articles met the inclusion criteria, representing a total of 1,275 patients. The most effective treatment modalities were topical antimicrobials and oral antibiotics, which achieved complete or partial response in 91% (n = 82/90) and 89% (n = 525/580) of patients respectively, followed by intense pulsed light (89%, n = 97/109 partial response), cyclosporine ophthalmic emulsion (87% n = 40/46), and lid hygiene (65%, n = 67/105). Combination treatments achieved a complete or partial response in 90% (n = 69/77). Results suggest that topical antimicrobials, oral antibiotics, intense pulsed light. and cyclosporine were the most efficacious single modality treatments.

Abstract Objective: The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effect of anti-inflammatory efficiency of tetracycline on dry eye and anterior segment parameters. Materials and Methods: This prospective study was conducted with 61 people who had been using tetracycline for the past 2 months. Each participant went through a detailed ophthalmological examination where intraocular pressure (IOP), central cornea thickness (CCT), K1 and K2 from keratometry measurements, anterior chamber depth (ACD), axial length (AXL), tear breakup time test (BUT), lissamin green staining (LG), Schirmer’s tear test (ST) and ocular surface disease index (OSDI) score were evaluated. Measurements of the patients who would be using a daily dose of 100 mg doxycycline for 2 months were done prior to the medication as well as 1 month and 2 months after the medication. 3 data sets of the participants were compared at the end of 2 months. Results: When results were compared, it was found that ST and LG parameters gradually increased in the first and second months and this increase was statistically significant (p0.05). When female and male participants were compared in terms of BUT, it was found that the decrease in females at the second month was higher and this was statistically significant (p=0.01). Conclusion: It was concluded that the young individuals using tetracycline displayed an early stage of improvement in dry eye parameters.

Isotretinoin is a first‐generation retinoid initially approved for the treatment of severe cases of acne vulgaris (nodulocystic acne). Because of its broad anti‐inflammatory and immunomodulatory properties, it has been used beyond its initial approval in a myriad of other indications. Adverse effects of isotretinoin vary from xerosis to teratogenicity. Herein, we reviewed the literature, through date‐unlimited PubMed search, from inception till December 2019, using the following search terms: “low‐dose isotretinoin” and “dermatology,” “isotretinoin and safety,” “isotretinoin, off‐label uses,” “isotretinoin and male fertility,” “isotretinoin, iPLEDGE system,” aiming to deliver a therapeutic update relevant to clinical practice. All English‐language articles were considered with no limitation based on the articles' type. Low‐dose isotretinoin is not limited to old and novel dermatological conditions, but also showed promising results in the field of infertility and safety in the field of gastroenterology. We also highlight on the safety profile of the drug and experts' recommendations to enhance safety measures to decrease fetal risk while on isotretinoin.
