Nutraceutical industrial chillies stalk waste as a new adsorbent for the removal of Acid Violet 49 from water and textile industrial effluent: adsorption isotherms and kinetic models

Abstract: a b s t r a c tFirst-ever study on the adsorption of Acid Violet 49 (AV49) dye, onto nutraceutical industrial chillies stalk waste (NICSW) is reported. A two-level fractional factorial experiment design and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were adopted to study how initial concentration of the dye, adsorbent dosage, duration of adsorption process, speed of agitation, pH of the reaction mixture and temperature affect the adsorption process. The adsorption capacity of NICSW at equilibrium was analyzed using Langmuir… Show more

“…Mathematical models of adsorption reaction and adsorption diffusion are proposed to determine the importance of diffusion in the adsorption process of the adsorbate onto adsorbent [ 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 , 34 , 35 ]. We have resorted to a functional empirical relationship of the uptake of the substrate at a given time q t varying almost proportionally with t 1/2 .…”

“…To identify specific model(s) with a smaller gap between experimental q e and Qm values, five isotherm models are Radke-Prausnitz, Vieth-Sladek, Redlich-Peterson, Brouers-Sotolongo, and Toth-were also studied. The importance of these models is described by us elsewhere [37]. To describe the heterogeneous adsorption system, the empirical mathematical equation was developed by Toth [38].…”

“…The adsorption isotherm empirical model proposed by Dubinin-Radushkevich [30] describes adsorption by filling the pore of the adsorbent A value of 110.59 mg g −1 for q s con-trasts with the Langmuir and Jovanovic models (Table 2). Additionally, a value of 0.97 for the correlation coefficient (R 2 ) confirms that the process of adsorption is linear (Figure 7b).…”
