Nocardioides sediminis sp. nov., isolated from a sediment sample

Abstract: A strictly aerobic, motile, short-rod-shaped, Gram-positive-staining actinomycete strain, designated MSL-01 T , was isolated from a sediment sample from Bigeum Island of Korea. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that the isolate MSL-01 T belonged to the genus Nocardioides, with the highest sequence similarity to Nocardioides terrigena DS-17 T (98.54 %), but the DNA-DNA relatedness to this type strain was 34 %. The physiological properties of strain MSL-01 T differ from those of Nocardioides terrigena DS-… Show more

“…Neither mycelium nor filaments were observed in the tested media. In older cultures, globose bodies significantly exceeding the remaining cells in diameter, which were similar to those reported in Nocardioides tritolerans (Dastager et al , 2008) and Nocardioides sediminis (Dastager et al , 2009), were occasionally observed. Good growth was observed on ISP 2 medium, whereas poor growth occurred on NA, R2A and TSA.…”

“…At the time of preparing this paper, the genus contained 73 species with validly published names (http://www.bacterio.net/nocardioides.html; Euzéby, 1997). Some of the 73 species were isolated from saline–alkaline environments; for instance, four type strains were isolated from alkaline soils (Yoon et al , 2005a, b, c, 2006), nine type strains were isolated from marine sediments (Yi & Chun, 2004a, b; Lee et al , 2007; Lee, 2007; Park et al , 2008; Dastager et al , 2009; Kim et al , 2009; Fan et al ; 2014, Zhang et al , 2014), one species was isolated from a salt lake (Lawson et al , 2000) and three species were isolated from seawater (Choi et al , 2007; Cho et al , 2013a, b).…”

“…Members of this genus are Gramstaining positive, non-acid-fast, aerobic and motile or non motile actinomycetes (Evtushenko et al 2015). The genus Nocardioides is versatile, being isolated not only from soil (Prauser 1976;Ahn et al 2014), but also from sea water (Kim et al 2008), volcanic ash (Lee and Lee 2014), sea food samples (Lin et al 2015), desert (Tuo et al 2015), ground water (Yoon et al 2004), beach sand (Lee et al 2007) and sediment sample (Dastager et al 2009). Different species of the genus Nocardioides have the ability to grow from psychrophilic to mesophilic (Dastager et al 2010) and thermophilic growth conditions.…”
