RESUMENEste artículo presenta los avances de implementación de las llamadas Redes Inteligentes o Smart Grids en el mundo entero y el prospecto que tiene Colombia hacia la implementación de nuevas soluciones, principalmente aquellos avances y desarrollos tecnológicos realizados en las redes eléctricas, relacionados con el uso de software para el análisis y gestión de las mismas en diferentes escenarios con el fin de optimizar la gestión y operación del sistema eléctrico ante los nuevos retos que se tienen. Para este fin, primero se presenta el marco teórico en el que están situados y los avances que se han tenido en los últimos años, analizando los sistemas de medición, comunicación, control y seguridad tradicionales en comparación con las soluciones futuras. Posteriormente, se recopila información general sobre los proyectos actuales que usan soluciones tal como ETAP Real Time, que involucran Redes Inteligentes. A su vez, se destacan las principales ventajas y desventajas que poseen las diversas soluciones implementadas, resaltando los vacíos técnicos y tecnológicos con respecto a la teoría consultada y el estado del arte actual. Finalmente se presenta y describe la solución ETAP Real Time como alternativa integral para ayudar a resolver el desafío de implementación de las Redes Inteligentes en el mundo entero y aplicado al caso Colombiano. ABSTRACTThe purpose of this paper is to present the advances in the implementation of the Smart Grids (SGs) in the whole world span and the prospectus of Colombia towards the implementation of new solutions. Mainly considering those technological developments and advances made in the electrical networks, related with the use of software for their analysis and management in different scenarios, to optimize the electrical system management and operation upon the new challenges that we have currently. For this matter, first is presented the theoretical framework which the SGs are focused and the advances in recent years, analyzing the metering, communication, security and control systems in comparison with future projected solutions.

In recent times, real-time simulation has been used to validate the testing and design of protection, control, and communications systems prior to their commissioning in the field, which has improved the reliability and security of the commissioning processes for electrical systems. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art and future trends in protection, control, and communications testing of electrical grids using real-time simulation. In addition, a summary is presented in which all the works and technologies mentioned are listed with the purpose of identifying new challenges in the proposed topic. Finally, future trends related to the use of real-time simulation for evaluating protection, control, and communications schemes are presented. Real-time simulation is very useful due to the increasing complexity of modern electrical power systems, therefore, it is necessary to use this kind of tool to facilitate field testing, avoid unnecessary work, and reduce costs for clients.

Load capability estimation of dry-type transformers used in PV-systems by employing field measurements

Transformer insulation aging is a critical issue for both reliable and economic operations, and for planning of electrical systems. As insulation aging depends on the hottest-spot temperature, transformer management can be improved with a suitable model for temperature estimation and prediction. However, the temperature inside transformers varies dynamically because of changes in both the cooling conditions and the load cycles. Hence, this paper presents an algorithm to estimate and predict the hottest-spot in Dry-Type distribution transformers, so that their capability and insulation life can be assessed. This procedure is focused on transformers used to directly connect PV-inverters to the grid in order to consider the uncontrolled power generation of distribution PV-systems. To implement the algorithm, it is assumed that records of ambient temperature, PV-system power generation cycle, and winding temperature are available. With this data, the parameters of an equivalent thermal circuit are fitted in order to dynamically model the transformer hottest-spot. The method was validated using twelve-day records of a 70 kW p PV-generation system connected to a 75 kVA Dry-Type transformer. Results show that an enhancement in the hot-spot estimation is reached, and an assessment of the performance in real-time monitoring of the transformer capacity is achieved employing the proposed algorithm.
