Morphology Controlled Synthesis of SnS2 Nanomaterial for Promoting Photocatalytic Reduction of Aqueous Cr(VI) under Visible Light

Abstract: A mild, template free protocol has been demonstrated for SnS2 nanoflake formation at the gram level from SnCl2 and thioacetamide (TAA). The SnS2 nanoflakes congregate to nanoflowers and nanoyarns with variable TAA concentrations. BET measurements reveal that the synthesized nanomaterials are highly porous having very high surface area, and the nanoflower has higher surface area than the nanoyarn. The synthesized nanomaterial finds application for promoting photoreduction of extremely toxic and lethal Cr(VI) un… Show more

“…3b) the presence of peak at around 161-162 eV for S 2À in the SnS 2 nanoparticles. The observed binding energies of Sn 4+ and S 2À are in good agreement with the reported data of SnS 2 [20]. Simply, the binding energy of Sn 3d and S 2p of SnS 2 -M2 was slightly shifted a higher region compared with SnS 2 -A, demonstrating slight changes in the outer electron cloud density of Sn ions [21].…”

“…7 The observed Raman peaks at 312.83 cm -1 and 312.48 cm -1 for samples 2 and 3 are closer to the peaks at 313 cm -1 exhibited by microplates made from sulfurizing F-doped SnO 2 14 and 312 cm -1 for nanoflowers and nanoyarns made by a modified hydrothermal method. 17 Our observed peak is higher than the 311 cm -1 peak of nanosheets made hydrothermally, 18 the 311 cm -1 peak of SnS 2 nanoparticles, 26 and the 311 cm -1 peak of exfoliated nanoflakes made by soaking bulk SnS 2 in butyllithium. 9 The position of Raman peak shift has been modeled using three force constants: intra-sandwich metal-ligand (M-L) bond stretching, intra-sandwich M-L-M bond bending, and inter-sandwich L-L bond stretching.…”

“…The experimental set up for the preparation of nanomaterial and single crystal is known as modied hydrothermolysis (MHT). 22 It leads to the formation of a black colored single crystal. A grey color precipitate was obtained initially and with prolonged reaction time it forms single crystal.…”
