Modification of Jute Fibre by Etherification Method for Diverse Textile Uses

Abstract: Etherification of jute fibre with butyl chloride was carried out at a temperature of 300C for a period of 2 hours in different solvents. Sodium hydroxide was selected as swelling agent for cheap and availability. Petroleum ether was used as a solvent in this research. The degree of substitution, the percent elongation, and bundle strength and moisture regain of the butyl substituted jute fibre was studied. It is observed that the bundle strength of the butyl substituted jute fibre decreases and percentage of m… Show more

“…Pestalotiopsis is an ascomycete fungus with pathogenic activity against plants and can grow in aerobic and anaerobic situations on polyurethane synthetic polymer as the sole carbon source, hence helps in bioremediation (Sánchez 2009;Elgamsy et al 2022). Enzymes produced by this microbial system are endoglucanase and exoglucanase to generate value-added products from cellulose-containing jute plant waste biomass (Islam et al 2022b). Anaerobic fungus like Neocallimastix frontalis, which lives in the rumen, have been captive to producing endoglucanase and exoglucanase and has a high demand in the cellulose conversion industry.…”

“…The elongation at break for the untreated bamboo fibre was 1.81% and improved by approximately 45% to reach the highest elongation at break of 3.11% when treated with 8 wt% alkaline concentrations. It is obvious that when alkaline concentration increases, intermolecular or interchain hydrogen bonds loosen at the expense of bundle strength, resulting in an increase in the percentage of elongation [51]. Bamboo fibres were modified from brittle to ductile as alkaline concentration was increased using NaOH, showing that alkaline treated bamboo fibres had a promising application in textiles [44].…”
