Micropropagation of Oregano (Origanum syriacum L.) Through Tissue Culture Technique

Abstract: This research was carried out at the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory (PTCL) in Faculty of Environmental Agricultural Sciences, Arish University, Egypt during 2013 to 2016. The aim of this study was using tissue culture technique for the micropropagation of Origanum syriacum L. plant. One node cutting and shoot tip were cultured on Murashige and Skoog (MS), Nitsch and Nitsch (NN) and Gamborg (B5) media. The results showed that shoot tip cultured on the MS medium had the best combination for the establishment st… Show more

“…Furmanowa and Olszowska [15], the first to establish micropropagation of Thymus vulgaris, used Nitsch and Nitsch (1969) [44] medium. Moreover, our results are in concordance with Abdallah et al [45], who obtained the best number of shoots, leaves and leaves/shoots for Origanum syriacum on MS medium, compared to NN and B 5 , as well as with Ӧzkum [46], who found that MS generates the highest number of parameters, such as the number of shoots and the number of leaves/shoots for Origanum minutiflorum, compared to B 5 . Also, Nordine et al [47] found that MS medium is the best for survival, multiplication and elongation of Thymus hyemalis Lange shoots, compared to 1/2 MS, B 5 and White (1963) [48].…”

“…Abdallah (2012) found that 0.30 mgl -1 of pyridoxine resulted in the highest number of shoots, shoot length, number of leaves and number of leaves/shoot of Capparis spinosa. Also, Abdallah (2017) found that 0.40 mgl -1 thiamine achieved the highest values of number of shoots, shoot length, number of leaves and number of leaves/shoot on Origanum syriacum. Arafeh et al (2003), Oluk and Cakir (2009) observed that plants were rooted on 1/2 strength MS medium supplemented with0.10 -2.00 mgl -1 IBA for Origanum species.…”
