Microgrid operation optimization with regulation of grid tie-line power fluctuations and risk management

Abstract: Summary This paper presents a novel multi‐objective energy management method for a microgrid that includes renewable energy, diesel generators, battery storage, and various loads. The fluctuation of the grid tie‐line power flow is regarded as one of the optimal objectives in order to decrease the power exchange between the microgrid and the main grid caused by intermittent and variable renewable resources. The uncertainty of renewable energy and loads is also considered in this paper. Stochastic optimization m… Show more

“…In order to present the effectiveness of the proposed methodology, the introduced approach for energy management of CMGs in which CMGs are considered as energy hubs is compared with another method proposed in Shen et al The obtained results are reported in Table , where CMGs electric and thermal energies are optimized separately in “Case I”. Moreover, CMGs are considered as energy hubs in “Case II”.…”

“…In this manuscript, the optimal operation management of CMGs is investigated that is regarded as one of the main challenges for CMGs. Several research have been conducted to fix issues relevant to technical, economic, and environmental aspects of CMGs operation . In Xiang et al, a scenario‐based robust energy management strategy is proposed considering the worst‐case amount of demanded power and renewable generation.…”

“…From the perspective of the demand of side response, the tie-line power of micro-grid becomes smooth once combined with the energy storage system as shown in a previous study [14]. Taking reduction in the tie-line power fluctuation as the optimization goal, a previous study [15] also proposed a micro-grid energy management control strategy. However, most of these methods depend on the communication system to coordinate the operation of devices in a micro-grid, resulting in a high cost and complex control.…”

“…As the renewable energy in global develops rapidly, renewable energies in the grid have an increasing widespread application, 1 and the distributed accessing way for them is broadly deployed. 2,3 Integrating distributed generations (DGs) are connected to distribution networks through microgrids (MGs) to realize their effective function, for it can decrease the detrimental effects from DGs due to their intermittent and fluctuation. [4][5][6] Microgrids are the generation and distribution networks that integrate DGs, converters, energy storage devices, loads, monitors, and control devices.…”
