Abstract:During an ultrastructural study of the interface area between tumour and dermis in 23 basal cell carcinoma (BCC), membrane-bound structures were noted in the dermis adjacent to the basal lamina in 12 tumours (52 per cent), but none of the controls. Serial sectioning demonstrated cytoplasmic connections between these structures and tumour cells. Their formation and interaction with adjacent stromal cells is discussed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
