Luminescence of double quantum wells subject to in-plane magnetic fields

Abstract: We report on photoluminescence (PL) measurements of a symmetric GaAs/AlGaAs double quantum well (DQW) in high magnetic fields. For this study, a selectively contacted p-delta n-DQW-delta n-p structure was chosen, allowing an independent tuning of the electron density in the DQW and thus a creation of a two-dimensional electron gas. Our attention was focused on phenomena in in-plane magnetic fields, where the field-induced depopulation of the antibonding subband observable in the PL spectra as a so-called N-typ… Show more

“…The possibility to generate direct and indirect excitonic states in double quantum wells focused great attention in optical experiments [10,11,12]. Furthermore, the g-factor variation with an external electric field has been observed in coupled quantum wells with unequal widths [13].…”

“…Polarization resolved PL measurements provide with energy, spin and space distribution of electrons. A probe of the electron distribution is of particular interest because it may throw some light on a development of the charge-density-wave (CDW) in quantum Hall bilayers. In DQW systems PL was used to study a structure of energy levels and excitonic states [15][16][17][18][19]. To the best of our knowledge polarized PL was not yet employed.…”
