Purpose The research aims to investigate the value of local wisdom, analyse local wisdom for the harmony of a multicultural society and discover forms of inheritance of local wisdom for maintaining peace. Design/methodology/approach Qualitative research was used in this research. The primary data were obtained through observation, in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Secondary data were obtained through reports from agencies, such as Social Services and Central Bureau of Statistics, literature studies and news from the internet. The data validity technique used was source triangulation. The data were analysed with stages of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Findings The results showed that the local wisdom sedekah bumi, selamatan malam 1 suro, sadranan and kuda lumping contain values related to religion, cooperation, harmony, togetherness, kinship and cohesiveness; the implementation of local wisdom can strengthen social harmony; and the inheritance of local wisdom takes place sustainably from families and communities to the younger generation. Research limitations/implications The research was conducted during the peak of COVID-19 cases in Central Java, Indonesia. Therefore, the data could not be obtained maximally. Practical implications This research contributes widely not only to the village studied but also to other communities with similar conditions. Social implications The inheritance of local wisdom can help maintain peace, unify societies and offer solution to social conflicts by implementing traditions containing humanity and peaceful values. Originality/value This research offers a new insight concerning the inheritance of local wisdom that can function as a tool to achieve a peaceful society and prevent social disasters from occurring.

Indonesia is a large country in Southeast Asia, with 37 provinces, 276 million people, and 1,340 ethnic groups. Of the many ethnic groups, conflict is motivated by many things. The problem raised in this study is social conflict, namely the conflict between local wisdom in society and local government regulations. This study aims to describe how local wisdom can resolve social and regulatory disputes at the local level. In understanding the research problem, this study chose the Minangkabau ethnic group in West Sumatra Province. The research method used is the SLR, which defines three relevant articles supported by the N-Vivo 12 tool. The research results show that conflict resolution through local wisdom is the community's choice because it is more accessible, efficient, and faster than government regulations (court). This study found 20 critical factors in conflict resolution: strong will and cultural values, deliberation and consensus, democracy, impartiality, leadership, cooperation, mutual respect, openness, security values, religious values, service orientation, shared values, tolerance values, and customary values. In addition, the six sub-factors reflect democratic values, which are reflected in the implementation of case registration, mutual deliberations, consensus, efficiency, governance, and the burden of expressing opinions by choosing the path of peace, transparency, and honesty. The critical factor lies in deliberation and consensus and is resolved early.

Thematic learning has provided an integrated and convergent approach to the learning process by classroom teachers. This approach has brought students closer to the world and their surroundings. However, it can also cause new classroom issues when the learning topic involves sensitive issues, such as traditions and religious ritual practices. This research focuses on how to manage the values of local wisdom (LW) and religious moderation (RM) in thematic learning, and the students' literacy level on LW and RM-based thematic learning management. It is a case study with an in-depth interview with madrasah leaders and classroom teachers followed by observation and documentation study. It reveals that LW and RM-based thematic learning management has been shifted from the conventional approach to the functional integrative thematic approach. At the same time, students become aware of the differences and similarities regarding LW and RM that they respect one another.
