Learning Difficulties of the 5th Grade Elementary School Students in Learning Human and Animal Body Organs

Abstract: Natural Science is an elementary school subject that requires students to organize ideas and concepts about the natural world gained from experiences through a series of scientific processes such as investigating, composing, and presenting ideas. The high complexity causes many cases of learning difficulties. This study aims to diagnose the learning difficulties that occur on 5th-grade elementary school students. The research was conducted in Muhammadiyah Pakem Elementary School, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Reg… Show more

“…The implication of the results of this study confirms that the MA can influence pedagogical competence of a teacher because it can have an impact on the way the teacher manages the class. This is reinforced by the opinion of Maryani, Husna, Wangid, Mustadi, & Vahechart (2018) that state that pedagogical competence possessed by a teacher has an influence on classroom management. Therefore, various efforts are needed to reduce the MA.…”

“…This makes it an important element determining the success of the learning activities undertaken by the students. However, several factors have been reported to be affecting students' academic performance in Natural Science learning and these include motivation (Hossainy, Zare, Hormozi, Shaghaghi, & Kaveh, 2013;Perangin-angin & Effendy, 2016), teaching facilities (Mushtaq & Khan, 2012), student engagement (Reyes, Brackett, Rivers, White, & Salovey, 2012), students' social and emotion (Durlak et al, 2011), teachers teaching methods (Devine, Fahie, & Deirdre, 2013), and the presence or absence of cognitive barriers such as learning difficulties (Maryani, Husna, Wangid, Mustadi, & Vahechart, 2018). Moreover, the level of difficulty for the learning material being studied in the lower grades (1 st , 2 nd , and 3 rd ) and upper ones (4 th , 5 th , and 6 th grades) is different.…”
