Learn to teach chemistry using visual media tools

Abstract: The aim of this study was to investigate undergraduate students' attitudes to using visual media tools in the chemistry laboratory. One hundred and fifteen undergraduates studying science education at Dokuz Eylu¨l University, Turkey participated in the study. They video-recorded chemistry experiments with visual media tools and assessed them on a social website. A Likert scale consisting of 29 items was developed to obtain the students' views on using visual media tools in the chemistry laboratory. The scale h… Show more

“…2D-plot with different slider buttons and text entry fields to vary function parameters dynamically, see Figs. [2][3][4][5]. With respect to static pictures, the real-time feedback perceived by students upon tuning such graphical representations can be fundamental for acquiring and understanding important concepts [2,12].…”

“…Interactive computational tools can facilitate knowledge and help the students to process information and collaborate [4]. Interactivity has been shown to improve students' curiosity compared to passive learning [5][6][7][8]. Increased access to computational support promote the use of applets as important component of the modern chemistry curriculum [5][6][7].…”
