Isolation of Flavonoids fromDipteryx odorataby High Performance Liquid Chromatography

Abstract: Dipteryx odorata (Aubl.) Willd, Fabaceae family, is a native species from the Amazon forest, Brazil. The goal of the work was to isolate and identify the flavonoids in the endocarp from D. odorata in order to minimize costs with solvents, time and residues.

“…O Cumarú (Dipteryx odorata), citado 8 vezes, já tem sido relatado devido sua utilização terapêutica no tratamento de úlceras, infecções de ouvido, distúrbios cardíacos e respiratórios e até anticancerígenos. A cumarina é o princípio ativo e pode ser extraído em laboratório a partir das sementes de cumarú, quando utilizada possui efeito bronco-dilatador, anti-inflamatório (analgésico e antiedematosa) (CUNHA et al, 2016).…”

“…Some of the traditional uses of D. odorata are supported by the results from studies with various coumarin analogues-from the seed as well as other parts of the plantshowing a wide range of pharmacological activities such as antimicrobial, antituberculosis, antiviral, anticoagulant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities [194,203]. In addition to coumarin, D. odorata seed contains various other bioactive flavonoids, particularly isoflavones [204], particularly in the endocarp [205] as well as some of its other parts [206,207]. These compounds are known to elicit potent antioxidant activity [208] and are, similarly to coumarins, phenylpropanoidderived natural products.…”

“…For this reason, they are abundantly used as key fragrances of fougère perfumes, as a substitute for vanilla, and as flavoring agents for desserts and stews as well as tobacco and whisky [175]-in addition to the applications mentioned above-despite the safety concerns [174]. Besides coumarins, D. odorata seed contains various other bioactive phenolic compounds, particularly isoflavones, mostly in the endocarp [190] but also in some of its other parts [191,192].…”
