Investigation of Three-Tier Diagnostic and Multiple Choice Tests on Chemistry Concepts with Response Change Behaviour

Abstract: This study aims to investigate the test scores of the three-tier diagnostic chemistry test (TDCT) and multiple choice chemistry test (MCCT) by response change behaviour (RCB). The study is a descriptive research study aiming to investigate the item response efforts of TDCT and MCCT in a computerized testing environment (Quizzer test program, QTP). In both TDCT and MCCT, QTP maintains a continuous record for each tier of the test. Participants in the study are students in the Science … Show more

“…However, the initial concepts that these students have are not all the same as the scientific concepts that have been agreed upon by the experts. This is usually called a misconception [2]. The existence of misconceptions will hinder the process of acceptance and assimilation of knowledge in students so that it will affect the success of students in the process of further learning.…”

“…The three-tier multiple-choice test is a diagnostic test consisting of three levels (Pesman & Eryilmaz, 2010). The first level is multiple choice, the second level is a choice of reasons for the first level, and the third level is a question of the level of confidence in the first and second levels (Yang & Sianturi, 2019;Liampa et al, 2019;Türkogus, 2020). This diagnostic test has students' belief items that provide more precise information about students' misconceptions.…”
