Investigation of Electrodeposition External Conditions on Morphology and Texture of Ni/SiCw Composite Coatings

Abstract: Recently, a strategy of synthesizing SiC whisker-reinforced nickel (Ni/SiCw) composites with excellent mechanical properties by electrodeposition has been proposed for exploring its potential applications in micromechanical devices. In this paper, a series of external conditions that affected the content of SiC whiskers in composite films were studied, such as cathode current density, stirring rate and electrolyte temperature. The experimental results indicated that the optimum morphology was obtained at a sti… Show more

“…By identifying the diffraction intensities associated with these distinct (hkl) planes generated from the sample and comparing them to the diffraction pattern generated by a texture-less powder, the orientational order of the sample can be qualitatively estimated (see example in Figure A) . Alternatively, the 2θ–ω scan results can also be compared among samples prepared under different conditions to screen for the characteristic preferred plane pointing out-of-plane. , Intensification of the diffraction of a certain plane (hkl) suggests stronger preference of this plane to be horizontally aligned, that is, [hkl]// P ec // ND . It provides a reasonable, semiquantitative evaluation of fiber textures and is consistent with texture identification based on pole figure measurements .…”

“…Among these particles, the SiC particle was one of the most promising reinforcements due to its superior properties such as good anti-corrosion, a high hardness, satisfied wear resistance, and high chemical stability. Ni-SiC composite coatings have been successfully commercialized in the automotive, aviation, and aerospace industry [10][11][12][13][14], which have been the subject of intensive research for decades.…”
