Flue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) is a major cash crop in Yunnan, China, and the yield, chemical components, and their proportions decide the quality of tobacco leaves. To understand the effects of environmental factors (soil and climatic factors) on the yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco and determine the main regulating factors, we selected three flue-cured tobacco cultivars [K326, Yunyan87 (Yun87), and Honghuadajinyuan (Hongda)] grown in the Honghe Tobacco Zone. Indices related to yield and economic traits, chemical component properties, soil physical and chemical properties, and climatic factors at different planting sites, were evaluated. We used variance analysis, correlation analysis, and redundancy analysis (RDA) in this study. The results showed that the yield and chemical component properties of flue-cured tobacco, except for the number of left leaves and plant total sugar (PTS) content, were significantly correlated with climatic factors. Particularly, the yield increased in drier and sunnier weather. In terms of the carbon supply capacity, PTS, petroleum ether (PPE), and starch contents (PS) were higher under high-altitude and high-latitude climatic conditions, whereas for the nitrogen supply capacity, plant nitrogen (PTN) and nicotine (PN) contents improved under low-altitude and low-latitude climatic conditions. PTS, reducing sugar (PRS), potassium (PTK), chlorine (PCL), and PPE contents were negatively related to soil clay content, soil pH, and soil organic matter, whereas PRS and PTK contents were positively correlated with alkali-hydrolyzed nitrogen (AN). According to RDA, the soil clay, AN, available phosphorus (AP), and soil chlorine content (SCL) strongly affected the quality of flue-cured tobacco. The quality of the K326 and Yun87 cultivars was mostly influenced by moisture, whereas the quality of the Hongda cultivar was mostly affected by temperature. In conclusion, compared with soil properties, climatic factors more significantly affect the yield and quality of Honghe flue-cured tobacco leaves.

Relay cropping timing has been frequently reported to in uence ue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) production. However, the optimal planting time for a relay corn (Zea mays L.) crop on ue-cured tobacco elds is unknown in terms of tobacco health, yield, quality, and economic value. A eld experiment was conducted with 10, 17, 24, and 31 d a er ue-cured tobacco apex excision as the relay cropping timings of corn, and tobacco monoculture as the control at Chuxiong, Yunnan, China in 2010 and 2011. e ve treatments were repeated three times in a randomized complete block design. e occurrence of brown spot (Alternaria alternata), plant biomass, plant N and K nutrition, yield, chemical composition, smoking quality, and economic value of ue-cured tobacco were a ected by year. Relay cropping 17 d a er tobacco apex excision resulted in better chemical composition and smoking quality. e incidence and severity index of brown spot, plant biomass, plant N and K nutrition, yield, chemical composition, smoking quality, and economic value of tobacco were not signi cantly a ected by the relay cropping timing of corn, indicating that relay cropping of corn at a later growth stage of ue-cured tobacco has no negative e ect on tobacco production while the relay corn crop may bring additional income to tobacco growers. Penanaman tembakau telah dilakukan secara intensif selama bertahun-tahun di Kabupaten Temanggung karena tembakau merupakan salah satu komoditas penting yang menjadi sumber pendapatan petani dan Pendapatan Asli Daerah (PAD) Kabupaten Temanggung. Namun, beberapa dekade terakhir kegagalan panen tembakau akibat variabilitas iklim sering terjadi yang menyebabkan pendapatan petani tembakau menurun. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil iklim, dampak, dan analisis risiko iklim pada tembakau di Kabupaten Temanggung. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan polygon thieseen untuk mengetahui pola curah hujan di Kabupaten Temanggung dan perhitungan distribusi curah hujan dilakukan menggunakan Probability Density Function untuk mengetahui kondisi perubahan curah hujan di masing-masing kecamatan. Selanjutnya, dilakukan analisis hubungan antara anomali curah hujan dan suhu dengan produktivitas tembakau menggunakan metode regresi linear dan uji t. Pengaruh curah hujan memiliki korelasi negatif dan signifikan dengan nilai korelasi dan koefisien deteminasi sebesar r =-0,38 dan R 2 = 0,14, sedangkan suhu rata-rata dan suhu maksimum bulanan memiliki korelasi negatif dan signifikan dengan produktivitas tembakau. Anomali curah hujan semua kecamatan di Kabupaten Temanggung memiliki korelasi negatif dan berpengaruh nyata pada produktivitas tembakau pada bulan JuniSeptember di mana pada bulan-bulan tersebut masuk fase panen tembakau. Pengaruh curah hujan dan suhu pada produktivitas tembakau di Kabupaten Temanggung perlu menjadi perhatian bagi pemerintah daerah dan petani tembakau dalam upaya adaptasi dan mitigasi.
