Influence of glycemic control on fetal lung maturity in gestations affected by diabetes or mild hyperglycemia

Abstract: Our results suggest that in term pregnancies routine amniocentesis for the assessment of fetal lung maturity should be abandoned. In preterm pregnancies, or when glycemic control is inadequate it is recommended.

“…The variables that were found to have a p value <0.1 in the univariate analysis were entered into the model. Gestational diabetes was also entered in the model, as there is an established relationship between respiratory distress syndrome and gestational diabetes [19]. Finally, the correlation between the term delivery and the fluorescence polarisation was assessed using Pearson's correlation coefficient.…”

“…GM was estimated based on the arithmetic mean of six glucose values measured every two hours from 8 a.m to 6 p.m once a week. All glucose determinations were obtained by the glucose oxidase method 12 , and a GM of 66.7 mmol/L (120 mg/dL) was considered adequate.…”
