This research was conducted to analyze the effect of legume wafer supplementation on the performance of post weaning Ettawa Grade goats. A total of 16 post weaning Ettawa Grade goats (average body weight 13.10±0.91 kg) were grouped into 4 group treatments and 4 blocks as replicate in a completely randomized block design. The treatments were T0 (basal diet/control), T1 (supplementation of 12.12% wafer supplement of Indigofera zollingeriana), T2 (supplementation of 13.54% wafer supplement of Leucaena leucocephala) and T3 (supplementation of 12.37% wafer supplement of Calliandra calothyrsus). The feed intake, nutrient digestibility, average daily gain (ADG), feed efficiency (FE), and income over feed cost (IOFC) were observed. The results showed that supplementation of legume wafer increased (P<0.05) the feed intake, organic matter digestibility, ADG, FE, and IOFC. Supplementation of I. zollingeriana wafer increased ADG by 55.08%, FE by 34.91%, and IOFC by 14.53%; L. leucocephala wafer increased ADG by 66.18%, FE by 41.63%, and IOFC by 19.09%; and C. calothyrsus wafer increased ADG by 32.62%, FE by 11.30%, and IOFC by 14.34%. In conclusion, the addition of legume wafer supplements into the rations could increase the feed utility value of legumes and L. leucocephala wafer at 13.54% showed the best performance in post-weaning Ettawa Grade goats.Keywords: post-weaning Ettawa Grade goats, legumes wafer, indigofera, Leucaena leucocephala, Calliandra calothyrsus ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi dan mencari pemberian suplemen wafer leguminosa terbaik dalam meningkatkan kinerja kambing Peranakan Etawah (PE) lepas sapih. Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak kelompok dengan 4 perlakuan dan 4 kelompok sebagai ulangan dengan menggunakan 16 kambing PE lepas sapih dengan rerata bobot badan 13.10±0.91 kg. Perlakuan terdiri atas P0 (ransum basal), P1 (suplementasi 12.12% wafer Indigofera zollingeriana), P2 (suplementasi 13.54% wafer lamtoro/Leucaena leucochepala), P3 (suplementasi 12.37% wafer kaliandra/Caliandra calotyrsus). Variabel yang diukur meliputi: konsumsi pakan, kecernaan pakan, pertambahan bobot badan harian (PBBH), efisiensi penggunaan pakan (EPP), serta income over feed cost (IOFC). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian suplemen wafer leguminosa pada kambing PE lepas sapih meningkatkan (P<0.05) konsumsi pakan, kecernaan bahan organik, PBBH, EPP, serta IOFC dibandingkan kambing PE lepas sapih yang tidak diberi suplemen wafer leguminosa. Pemberian suplemen wafer I. zollingeriana dapat meningkatkan 55.08% PBBH, 34.91% EPP, dan 14.53% IOFC; wafer lamtoro dapat meningkatkan 66.18% PBBH, 41.63% EPP, dan 19.09% IOFC; dan wafer kaliandra dapat meningkatkan 32.62% PBBH, 11.30% EPP, dan 14.34% IOFC. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah pemanfaatan leguminosa sebagai wafer suplemen pakan di dalam ransum mampu meningkatkan nilai guna ransum dan wafer L. leucocephala pada taraf 13.54% menunjukkan performa terbaik pada kambing PE lepas sapih.

Trace minerals are dietary elements required by the body in minute amounts, ranging from 0.10 to 50.0 mg/kg dry matter in beef cattle diets [1]. These trace minerals are all necessary for the biochemical processes of the body that support proper growth and maintenance. For example, Cu is necessary for the function of superoxide dismutase and its removal of toxic byproducts from metabolic pathways [2]. The removal of these toxic byproducts allows for metabolism to proceed efficiently, uninhibited by damaging oxygen free radicals. Zinc, an important trace mineral for enzyme function, aides in the regulation of nucleic acid production, carbohydrate metabolism, and protein synthesis, thus providing a stable framework for development [3]. The immune system is part of the host's defense against destructive forces from outside the body, such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites, or from within, such as malignant cells or those that produce autoantibodies [4]. This system is composed of two branches: the innate or non-specific immune system, and the adaptive or specific immune system [5]. In this review paper, an attempt has been made to review effects of mineral supplements in Rumen Metabolism, effects on Immune Function in different species of animals.

AbstrACt:The aim of the experiment was to compare the effect of inorganic and organic forms of copper (Cu) supplementation on Cu status of goats and their kids, colostrum and milk composition and quality, and on the Cu concentrations in amniotic fluids and fetal membranes. The experiment involved 22 clinically healthy pregnant goats with similar mean Cu concentration in blood serum. Goats were divided into 3 groups: E1, E2, and C. Basal feed ration differed only in Cu form and concentration in a grain mixture. The goats of experimental groups E1 and E2 received the supplement of Cu sulfate and Cu chelate, respectively. Control group C was without Cu supplementation. Blood samples from goats and kids were collected on the day of parturition (day 0; in kids before colostrum intake) and on days 2, 7, and 21 postpartum. On the same days the kids were weighed. Colostrum or milk samples were collected on days 0, 5, and 30. During delivery, also samples of amniotic fluids and fetal membranes were collected. Both forms of Cu supplementation resulted in higher average concentration of Cu (compared to control group) in blood serum of goats (19.5 ± 1.7 and 18.5 ± 2.5 vs. 15.2 ± 4.4 µmol/l, respectively) and blood serum of kids (6.7 ± 0.8 and 6.0 ± 0.5 vs. 6.0 ± 1.0 µmol/l, respectively). Significant differences in Cu serum concentration on the day of parturition in goats were observed in group E1 compared to control (P < 0.05) and also in kids of group E1 compared to group E2 and control (P < 0.05). The Cu concentration in the blood of kids on the day of parturition was significantly (P < 0.01) lower compared to that in maternal blood. Percentages of Cu concentration in the blood of kids in groups E1, E2, and C were 34, 33, and 39% of that in maternal blood. The results of Cu concentration in blood serum of goats on days 2, 7, and 21 were without significant differences between groups. Significantly higher Cu serum concentrations (P < 0.05) were observed in kids on day 2 in group E1 compared to control group and also on day 21 in group E1 compared to group E2. Colostrum Cu concentration was significantly (P < 0.05) higher in group E1 (10.6 ± 3.3 µmol/l) compared to group E2 (7.1 ± 1.5 µmol/l). There were no significant differences observed in Cu concentration in amniotic fluids and fetal membranes. The kids on both forms of Cu supplementation (on day 0 in group E1 and on days 2, 7, and 21 in group E2) had significantly (P < 0.05) higher average weight than the kids from control group. Our results are suggesting that the inorganic form of Cu (copper sulfate) is more efficient than organic (copper chelate) in influencing the Cu metabolism in goat-kid relationship and that Cu supplementing has a positive effect on the weight of kids.
