Indoor Localization Enhancement Based on Time of Arrival Using Sectoring Method

Abstract: The indoor wireless communication in general, suffers from several challenges like, signal reflection, diffraction, and attenuation. With these problems, the error range is increased significantly and the accuracy will be lost. To address those problems, Mini Zone (MZ)e technique propos in this paper which aim to partition building into small areas lead to more simplicity and flexibility to assign suitable parameters for specific area rather than whole building. To do that, case study building separated to sev… Show more

“…In this work, a new technique based on dynamic mechanisms based on ToA and RSS was proposed to mitigate NLoS and regressive signals. In some scenarios, the ToA method was better than the RSS method like in distances exceed (25) m with average errors (0.2) m. Whereas, in distances under (25) m, the RSS method was better with average errors (0.3) m. The ToA with the proposed technique is slightly outperformed RSS in distances above (25) m and specific in the LoS scenario.…”

“…ToA measurements must be made with respect to signals from at least the reference points in order to facilitate 2-D placement. The one-way propagation distance (di) is estimated for ToA-based systems as [30]:…”

“…Various indoor positioning models have been developed in the literature using different techniques, including range-based techniques such as Time of Arrival (ToA) [10], Angle of Arrival (AoA) [11], and RSSI fingerprint matching algorithms [12]. Wireless technologies such as WiFi, Bluetooth, Radio Frequency Identification Device (RFID), UltraWideband (UWB), and LoRaWAN are considered by several researchers in developing indoor models.…”
