In Vitro Antioxidant Capacities and Antidiabetic Properties of Pluchea Leaves and Green Tea Mixtures at Various Proportions

Abstract: Objective: This study was done to determine the effect of pluchea leaves and green tea mixtures at various proportions to antioxidant and antidiabetic properties. Methods:The research used a single factor randomized block design. Research factors were pluchea and green tea mixture proportions, including 100:0; 75:25; 50:50; 25:75; and 0:100% (w/w), respectively. Each of factors was repeated five times. The parameters observed in this study were phytochemical compounds, total phenols, total flavonoids, free rad… Show more

“…These results are in agreement with several previous studies that showed the high availability of phenols in Laurel [5,12,19]. Therefore, reducing different kinds of oxygen and nitrogen species, as well as the free radicals, relates to phenolic compounds [20]. Hence, the quality of natural antioxidants is mainly based on the availability of phenolic compounds [21,22].…”

“…When the action of alpha-glycosidase enzyme can be inhibited, the process of converting carbohydrates into glucose can be suppressed, so there is an effect in lowering blood glucose [23][24][25]. Similar result demonstrated by a study of Jain et al and Paini et al that Prucha leaves, green tea, and Abrus precatorius extract contained flavonoid antioxidant that has a antidiabetic properties and can be used as sources of natural antioxidant and used in drug formulations for treatment of diseases resulting from oxidative stress [26,27].…”

“…Ascorbic acid is one of the most important natural antioxidants as it oxidizes ascorbate to dehydroascorbate and therefore stamps out ROS. It may also be used to perform other several important physiological functions such as it might act as the cofactor for prolyl hydroxylase activity, which helps in the hydroxylation of prolyl and leads to the formation of procollagen and elastin [35,40]. It is common assumption that the cellular aging process can be prevented by plants' phenolic substances, which has galvanized the investigation of T. foenum-graecum metabolites and its possible, feasible action in the prevention and reduction of cellular aging.…”
