Identification and transcriptional response of ATP‐binding cassette transporters to chlorantraniliprole in the rice striped stem borer, Chilo suppressalis

Abstract: BACKGROUND: As the largest transporter gene family in metazoans, ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters regulate the efflux of a broad spectrum of substrates from the cytoplasm to the outside of the cell. In arthropods, ABC transporters are involved in phase III of the detoxification process, and play important roles in the metabolism and transport of insecticides. RESULTS: We identified 54 ABC transporters from the genome and transcriptome of Chilo suppressalis, one of the most damaging pests of rice in Chin… Show more

“…55 The relative expression of 13 ABCG genes of Nilaparvata lugens were changed in response to different concentrations of thiamethoxam, abamectin and cyantraniliprole, of which the expression of NlABCG1 could be induced by all three insecticides. 56 ABCG1 in C. suppressalis also was shown to be significantly upregulated by chlorantraniliprole, 52 but no further evidence was found to associate its overexpression with chlorantraniliprole resistance.…”

“…In Manduca sexta, ABCC transporters are involved in multidrug resistance and detoxification [51]. In Chilo suppressalis, CsABCC8 was significantly up-regulated after chlorantraniliprole exposure and CsABCC8 was homologous with the sulfonylurea receptor (Sur) that may participate in insecticide metabolism [52]. In this study, ZcABCC2 and ZcABCC3 were mainly expressed in adults and within the Malpighian tube.…”

“…The third instar larvae of Chilo suppressalis were used for bioassay employing a diet incorporation method as described previously 23,24 . A stock solution of flonicamid was dissolved in acetone containing 0.1% Triton X‐100 and diluted into serial concentrations using distilled water.…”

“…The toxicity of flonicamid to Chilo suppressalis larvae The third instar larvae of Chilo suppressalis were used for bioassay employing a diet incorporation method as described previously. 23,24 A stock solution of flonicamid was dissolved in acetone containing 0.1% Triton X-100 and diluted into serial concentrations using distilled water. Insecticide-incorporated diet was prepared by mixing 5 mL of diluted flonicamid with 45 mL of artificial diet, and the insecticide concentrations in the diets ranged from 25 to 1200 mg L −1 .…”
