Hyperglycaemia and Diuresis during Sedation with Detomidine in the Horse

Abstract: In four horses (mares), the effect of atropine (1 mg/100 kg of body weight I. V.) and detomidine (4 mg/100 kg of body weight I. V.) on several electrolytes and other parameters in serum and urine was studied.A marked hyperglycaemia was noted in all cases; none of the investigated serum electrolytes, metabolites or enzyme concentrations changed significantly.
