Resumo:Objetivo: Descrever as características sócio-demográficas e clínicas de vítimas de violência sexual e sua associação com o tempo decorrido entre a agressão sexual e a chegada ao serviço de saúde. Método: Estudo retrospectivo de 439 casos de mulheres vítimas de agressão sexual, atendidas por serviço público de São Bernardo do Campo, São Paulo, Brasil, no período de 2000 a 2007. Resultados: De 439 pacientes incluídas, 374 chegaram antes de 72 horas ao hospital. A média de idade foi de 24,5 anos; 45,1% cursava ou havia concluído o segundo grau. A penetração vaginal foi a ocorrência mais comum, sendo exclusiva em 43,9% dos casos, enquanto que a associação desta com penetração anal ou oral ocorreu em 31,4% dos casos. Foram estatisticamente significantes para a chegada após 72 horas da agressão: a ausência de trauma não genital (OR = 2,58; IC95%: 1,04; 6,38), a não realização de denúncia policial (OR = 2,74; IC 95%: 1,58; 4,78) e o agressor conhecido (OR = 0,51; IC95%: 0,28; 0,96). Conclusões: O traumatismo não genital e a denúncia policial foram protetores para as vítimas, trazendo-as ao hospital dentro das primeiras 72 horas após a ocorrência; já o agressor conhecido foi fator determinante no atraso à chegada ao serviço de saúde. Políticas públicas para capacitação, divulgação e integração entre os setores envolvidos na abordagem deste tipo de violência podem reduzir as complicações dela decorrentes.Palavras-chave: saúde pública; saúde da mulher; violência sexual; prevenção e controle; infecção por HIV. Abstract:Background: We aimed to describe the social, demographic and medical characteristics of victims of sexual violence and their association with the lapsed time between the aggression and the search for medical attention, and to identify the possible reasons for delay in access to hospital. Methods: We reviewed the records of 439 female cases of sexual violence, treated through the medical services in Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, during an eight-year period, from 2000 to 2007. Results: Of the 439 patients, 374 arrived at the hospital within 72 hours after the aggression. The average age was 24.5 years; 45.1% completed or were finishing high school. The most common form of sexual aggression was vaginal penetration in 43.9% of the cases, followed by multiple forms of penetration such as vaginal plus anal, or vaginal plus oral in 31.4% of the patients. Patients who did not suffer extra-genital injury and those who did not notify the authorities were significantly more likely to present to care after 72 hours: OR = 2.58 (95%CI: 1.04; 6.38) and OR = 2.74 (95%CI: 1.58; 4.78) respectively. Patients who had prior knowledge of their aggressor were significantly less likely to present after 72 hours (OR = 0.51; 95%CI: 0.28; 0.96). Conclusions: patients who suffered from extra-genital trauma and those who notified the authorities were more likely to seek care within 72 hours whereas patients who knew their aggressor were more likely to suffer the consequences of seeking care later than 72 hours. BackgroundSexual violence is considered a serious violation of human rights which affects mainly young women and adolescents. There is little information about the conditions under which sexual offences occur. We evaluated characteristics of sexual violence against adolescent girls and adult women.MethodThis is a quantitative, retrospective, descriptive study of sexual violence against adolescent girls and adult women. Analyses were carried out on data collected from 1118 women, 546 adolescents (10-19 years) and 572 adults (≥ 20 years), with a complaint of rape treated at Hospital Pérola Byington, São Paulo, between 1994 and 1999. The age limit of the adolescent sample met the World Health Organization’s (WHO) criteria. We analyzed the type of sexual contact, degree of intimidation, perpetrator and activity of the victim during the approach.ResultsCrimes without penetration were five times more frequent in adolescents and use of threats of death or intimidation was common in both groups. Mental illness was more prevalent in adult victims and the majority of adolescent victims were aged <14 years. Uncle and stepfather perpetrators were more frequent among adolescents and partners or former intimate partners in adult women. In most cases the approach occurred in public places, although sex crimes at the perpetrator’s residence were more frequent amongst adolescents.ConclusionsAlthough children and adolescents require the same intervention measures and legal protection, a considerable proportion of adolescent sex offenders can face conditions similar to those of adult women.

Introduction: Sexual violence is one of the morbidities and mortality factors in women. Sexual violence of women causes physical and physiological sequences that make them vulnerable to health problems. Material and method:It was normative legal research with a literature study and document study as a method to collect the research data.Findings: Marital sexual abuse or the highest personal relation was incest with 1,071 cases followed by raping with 818 cases, and molestation with 321 cases. Meanwhile, marital rape reached 195 cases. The forms of sexual violence consist of sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, coercion of contraceptive use, compulsion in abortion, rape, marital compulsion, prostitution, sexual bondage, and sexual torture. The protection against victims of sexual violence was considered to be not optimal due to a lack of public understanding of the causes and effects of sexual violence. Conclusion:So far, the legal protection against women in sexual violence cases have not been optimally implemented. The minimum legal protection triggered impunity, reoccurrence, and even the victims' frustration to accept justice and recovery.
