High prevalence of viruses in table grape from Spain detected by real-time RT-PCR

Abstract: Table grapes from one of the most important growing area in Spain (Vinalopó, Alicante) protected by the Designation of Origin "Vinalopó bagged table grape", were surveyed and analysed to determine the prevalence of the five viruses included in the Spanish certification program: Arabis mosaic virus (ArMV), Grapevine fanleaf virus (GFLV), Grapevine fleck virus (GFkV), Grapevine leafroll associated virus-1 (GLRaV-1) and Grapevine leafroll associated virus-3 (GLRaV-3). Ninety five sampling points were selected and… Show more

“…The high percentage of infected varieties, equal to 94.5%, shows a sanitary status of indigenous germplasm similar to other countries such as Spain (96%) (Bertolini et al. ) and other Italian regions such as Sicily (98%), Campania (87%) and Sardinia (77%) (Garau et al. ; Barba et al.…”

“…In contrast, the rate of positive samples for GLRaV‐1 and GLRaV‐3 in Spain was 66.3% and 94.7%, respectively (Bertolini et al. ). Survey of grapevine viruses in Chile also revealed high prevalence of GLRaV‐1 (4.67%), GLRaV‐2 (16.05%), GLRaV‐3 (6.41%) and GVA (5.57%) (Fiore et al.…”

“…It is difficult to estimate the level of damage produced by this virus because of the latency of the infection, even though it is quite frequent in all the areas where grapes are cultivated (Bertolini et al. ; Fiore et al. ).…”
