“…In vitro studies with human whole blood have shown that the biosynthesis of cysteinyl-leukotrienes (Cys-LT) and thromboxane as proinflammatory mediators produced after stimulation of blood cells with the Ca 2+ ionophore A23187 was inhibited by Harpagophytum extracts as a function of the harpagoside concentration. [17][18][19] From these results it was concluded that harpagoside is pharmacologically the most effective compound. However, because the activity of extracts is stronger than those of pure harpagoside, [17][18][19] other constituents may contribute to their efficacy.…”
