Growth and productivity of oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) on media rice straw mixed with sawdust

Abstract: Pleurotus ostreatus can be cultivated in a medium derived from wood dust or lignin which has been weathered and wrapped in plastic. The purpose of this research is to measure the effect of the composition of rice straw mixture on white oyster mushroom growing media on the growth and productivity of white oyster mushrooms (P. ostreatus) and get the best composition of planting media for growth and productivity of white oyster mushrooms (P. ostreatus). The research design used was a Completely Randomized Design … Show more

“…Media compositions containing EFB (P1-P4) produced a high yield of mushroom in the first month, compared to P5, which did not contain EFB. Mushroom need carbon source which was obtained from EFB (lignin and cellulose), calcium source from CaCO 3 , and a small amount of nutrients, such as N, P and S from brans (Rambey et al, 2020). EFB contains 26.49% lignin, 32.57% cellulose, and 27.7% hemicellulose (Mamimin et al, 2021).…”

“…Oyster mushrooms will grow in nutrient-rich media [3]. Mushroom cultivation uses sawdust as a raw material for making baglog for mushroom nurseries due to the presence of cellulose, IOP Publishing doi:10.1088/1755-1315/1230/1/012071 2 hemicellulose and lignin content [7,[20][21][22]. Sawdust can stimulate the growth of the mushroom mycelium faster on the media [8].…”

“…The growth of Oyster mushroom (P. ostreatus) mycelia was relatively faster on a combination of sawdust + teff straw wastes as compared to the remaining three combinations [13]. Rambey et al [14] carried out a research to estimate the effect of the composition of rice straw mixture on white oyster mushroom growing media on the growth and productivity of white oyster mushrooms (Pleurotus ostreatus) and get the best composition of planting media for the growth and productivity of white oyster mushrooms (P. ostreatus). It can be grown in a medium derived from wood dust or lignin, which has been weathered and wrapped in plastic.…”
