Greener route for microwave enhanced syntheses of bioactive 1,5‐benzodiazepines using heterogeneous calcium ferrite/graphene oxide nanocomposite as a novel and sustainable catalyst

Abstract: In the present paper, a novel and benign protocol for microwave enhanced one pot syntheses of 2,3‐dihydro‐1,5 benzodiazepine derivatives from substituted acetophenones, aryl‐aldehydes and o‐phenylene diamine using heterogeneous calcium ferrite/graphene oxide (CF/GO) nanocomposite has been reported. The catalyst was prepared by ultrasonication method and characterized by spectral and analytical techniques. The CF/GO nanocomposite was employed for environmentally benign synthesis of 2,3‐dihydro‐1,5 benzodiazepin… Show more

“…[1][2][3][4] It is noted that two-thirds of the organic compounds, known in the literature, are heterocycles: containing at least one heteroatom (most often nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur). [5][6][7][8][9][10][11] In particular, 1,5-benzodiazepines are well known for their various therapeutic properties including anticonvulsant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, hypnotic, sedative, and hypnotic activities. [12][13][14][15][16][17] They are also used to relieve pain of skeletal muscle joints and the spasticity resulting from cerebral palsy and paraplegia, athetosis, and stiffman syndrome.…”

“…Another one-pot methodology is based upon condensation and cyclization to form benzodiazepine from aldehyde and ketones as starting materials. This method has been reported by Gupta et al, 2020 under microwave for the synthesis of benzodiazepine derivatives (67) in the presence of the heterogeneous calcium ferrite/graphene oxide (CF/GO) nanocomposite from the reaction of o-phenylene diamine, acetophenones, and aryl-aldehydes (Scheme 18) [182].…”

“…Gupta et al [ 203 ] synthesized 1,5‐benzodiazepines via one‐pot three‐component reaction of acetophenone, aromatic aldehyde, and benzene‐1,2‐diamine in the presence of calcium ferrite/GO nanocomposite (CF/GO) with ethanol‐water as a solvent system under microwave irradiation at 100°C and 450 W for 8–10 min. Additionally, the catalyst could be easily recovered up to five times with a small change in the catalytic activity (Scheme 38).…”
