Gamified physical activation of young men – a Multidisciplinary Population-Based Randomized Controlled Trial (MOPO study)

Abstract: BackgroundInactive and unhealthy lifestyles are common among adolescent men. The planned intervention examines the effectiveness of an interactive, gamified activation method, based on tailored health information, peer networks and participation, on physical activity, health and wellbeing in young men. The risk behaviours that were targeted in various intervention countries, separated by studies with young adult male participants only and studies with outcomes stratified by age/sex to include young adult males are shown in Table 2.…”

“…This study is part of a larger MOPO study (2012), which aims to promote physical activity among young men and prevent their social marginalization (see also Ahola et al, 2013). The study protocol has been registered with the clinical trials register (NCT01376986, ClinicalTrials.gov).…”

“…[12], [1] While the MOPO studies concentrate on overall activity as well as on physical activity using a gamified coaching service, this study concentrates on the physical activity motivation. However, in this study we approach the persuasion for physical activity in an unorthodox manner: instead of motivating user directly towards more active lifestyle the user is motivated to play the computer game, Space Pioneer.…”
