Flow-Injection Chemiluminescence Determination of Ofloxacin and Levofloxacin in Pharmaceutical Preparations and Biological Fluids

Abstract: A novel, rapid and sensitive analytical method is described for determination of ofloxacin and levofloxacin by enhanced chemiluminescence (CL) with flow-injection sampling. The method is based on the CL reaction of the Ce(IV)-Na2S2O4-ofloxacin/levofloxacin-H2SO4 system. The enhanced CL mechanism was developed and the optimum conditions for CL emission were investigated. The CL intensity was correlated linearly (r = 0.9988) with the concentration of ofloxacin (or levofloxacin) in the range of 1.0 × 10 -8 -1.0 × … Show more

“…8 The quantification of drugs or drug monitoring based on DNA-drug interactions has been reported. [9][10][11][12] DNA is usually chosen as a surface-modification element because of its high sensitivity, and compatibility with modern micro-fabrication technologies; it is especially promising for rapid detection. 13,14 Measurements of some trace phenothiazine drugs were performed with a DNA-modified carbon paste electrode (CPE) by using a potentiometric stripping analysis (PSA) method.…”

“…Unlike the other reported methods [12][13][14][15]19], the proposed methods are very simple, free from the use of auxiliary reagents and expensive instruments. The reported visible spectrophotometric methods based on oxidative-coupling reaction [23] uses an expensive reagent, and the reaction product is less stable.…”

“…HPLC has been used for the assay of OFX in pharmaceuticals when present either alone [5][6][7] or in combination with nitazoxanide [8]. Various other techniques including HPTLC [9], capillary electrophoresis [10,11], atomic absorption spectrometry [12], spectrofluorometry [12], chemiluminescence spectrometry [13][14][15], UV-spectrophotometry [16][17][18], stripping voltammetry [19], potentiometry and conductometry [20], polarography [21], and microbiological method [22] have been reported for the assay of OFX in pharmaceuticals. Many of the above techniques are deficient on simplicity, cost-effectiveness, and easy accessibility.…”

“…Monitoring OFL concentrations in real samples is vital for adjusting the drug dosage and studying drug-drug interactions. 3 H i g h -p e r f o r m a n c e l i q u i d c h r o m a t o g r a p hy (HPLC), [4][5][6] spectrophotometry, 7,8 spectrofluorimetry, 9,10 thin layer chromatography (TLC)-fluorescence spectrodensitometry, 11,12 capillary electrophoresis, 13,14 and flow-injection chemiluminescence 15,16 are several methods used for ofloxacin determination. Some of these methods are expensive, elaborate, and often not sensitive enough to directly determine trace amounts of ofloxacin in urine samples.…”
