Lumbosacral pathologies can lead to infertility. Onuf's nucleus changes in these pathologies may have a role in low sperm number. This study aims to investigate the relationship between Onuf's nucleus degeneration and sperm number following spinal subarachnoid haemorrhage. 22 rabbits were used. They were divided into three groups; five of them were used as the control (GI), five as the SHAM (GII) and twelve as the study groups (GIII). The study group received 0.7 ccs autologous blood into the spinal subarachnoid space at the T12‐L1 level. After two weeks, all animals were decapitated, and S1–S3 laminectomy was done. Neurodegenerative changes of Onuf's nucleus, pudendal ganglia (S3) following two weeks after spinal SAH, were examined; sperm numbers were calculated. Degenerated neuron density of the Onuf's nucleus (n/mm3), the pudendal ganglia (S3) (n/mm3) and mean sperm numbers were calculated as 5 ± 2, 8 ± 3/mm3 and 98.345 ± 12.776/mm3 in the control (GI), 20 ± 5/mm3, 243 ± 66/mm3 and 91.841 ± 9.654/mm3 in the SHAM (GII), 143 ± 39/mm3, 2,350 ± 320/mm3 and 68.549 ± 5.540/mm3 in the study group (GIII). In conclusion, there were statistically significant differences between groups. Onuf's nucleus may be responsible for decreased sperm number following spinal SAH.

Objective: Patients with spontaneous subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) may develop refractory arterial cerebral vasospasm (CVS), which is the leading cause of death in SAH patients. This study explored the clinical diagnostic value of serum miR-195-5p levels in CVS after SAH (SAH + CVS) and its relationship with the prognosis of SAH + CVS. Methods: A total of 110 patients with spontaneous SAH were divided into the SAH group (N = 62) and SAH + CVS group (N = 58), with 60 healthy subjects as controls. The clinical data of blood glucose, blood sodium fluctuation, and serum lactic acid were recorded. miR-195-5p serum level was detected by RT-qPCR and its diagnostic value on SAH + CVS was analyzed by receiver operating characteristic curve. Serum levels of PDGF/IL-6/ET-1 and their correlation with miR-195-5p were analyzed using RT-qPCR, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and Pearson's method. The patient prognosis was evaluated by Glasgow Outcome Scale. The effect of miR-195-5p levels on adverse prognosis was analyzed by Kaplan-Meier method and Cox regression analysis. Results: miR-195-5p was lowly expressed in the serum of SAH patients and lower in SAH + CVS patients. Serum miR-195-5p level assisted the diagnosis of SAH and SAH+ CVS and was negatively correlated with PDGF/IL-6/ET-1 levels and was an independent risk factor together with ET-1 and blood glucose for SAH + CVS. miR-195-5p low expression predicted a higher cumulative incidence of adverse outcomes and was an independent predictor of adverse outcomes. Conclusion:Poor expression of miR-195-5p can assist the diagnosis of SAH + CVS and predict higher adverse outcomes.

Aim: Steno-occlusive carotid artery disease causes increased intraluminal pressure, retrograde blood flow, intraluminal enlargement, vessel wall thinning, convolution, vascular remodelling, angiogenesis, and aneurysm formation. We investigated whether there is a relationship between trigeminal ganglion (TGG) ischemia and luminal surface area values of external/internal carotid arteries (ECA/ICA) after common carotid artery ligation (BCCAL). Material and Methods: This study was conducted in 20 hybrid male rabbits as control (GA;n=5), SHAM (GB;n=5), and study group (GC,n=10). Following anterior mid-cervical incision, permanent BCCAL was performed for only GC and animals sacrificed under general anaesthesia after three months. Degenerated neuron (DN) density of TGGs and ECAs/ICAs' luminal surface values were estimated by Cavalieri and Stereological methods. Lumen enlargement, wall thinning, elongation, convolution, and dolichoectasia were detected in the carotid artery vasculature. Results: The mean DN density of TGG was 12±4 in GA, 53±11 in GB, and 960±112 in GC. The mean number of ECA branches was calculated as 4±1/GA, 7±2/GB, and 11±3/GC. Total surface values of ECA/ICA (as mm2): 4.8±1.2/GA; 3.9±0.8/GB and 3.6±0.4/GC. Conclusion: The low density of DN in TGG could have a beneficial effect on neovascularization, collateral development, a renormalization of carotid circulation, and prevention of ischemic damage supplied by ECA/ICA of study group.
