Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology of Diffuse-Type Tenosynovial Giant Cell Tumors

Abstract: Background: Tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TSGCT), also known as giant cell tumor of tendon sheath or pigmented villonodular synovitis, is the most common benign tumor of the tendon and synovium. The intra-articular diffuse type can present as a large infiltrative mass involving adjacent soft tissue and sometimes causes secondary destruction of bone, which leads to radiographic and clinical concern for malignancy. The tumor may also be purely extra-articular. Case: Here, we report the fine needle aspiration cy… Show more

“…Mononuclear stromal cells show oval to spindle morphology or can be plasmacytoid or polygonal in shape 1,9,18,19 . Although predominant morphology can be either of these types in a given case, frequently admixture of these three types of mononuclear are seen, 1,9,18,19 similarly in our study also this was noted.…”

“…It is characteristically a hypervascular lesion. “Lady bird‐like” cells were another characteristic feature seen, these cells were first described on cytology by Zhao et al in 2017, they had been previously described on histopathology by Fletcher in 2000 18,20 . Touton giant cells and xanthoma cells were also seen as had been previously described by other pathologists 1,9 …”

“…The nuclear features like nuclear grooving and intranuclear inclusions were also seen in histology sections. The ladybird cells are characteristic feature of GCTTS, described by Christopher Fletcher in histology sections and Zhao et al in cytology smears. GCTTS is a benign lesion, although rare mitosis has been described .…”

“…К настоящему моменту исследование многоядерных клеток различного происхождения получило свое развитие, нашедшее отражение в научной литературе [1][2][3]. При этом общеизвестно, что изучение многоядерных клеток является фундаментальной биологической проблемой, затрагивающей различные сферы медикобиологических наук.…”
