Objetivo: Associar alterações de marcadores de resistência insulínica do eixo GH/IGF-1 em crianças nascidas baixo peso, relacionando com fatores clínicos e laboratorial. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo descritivo de abordagem quantitativa. A amostra foi por conveniência e para cada criança baixo peso, foi abordada uma criança com o peso adequado, perfazendo um total de 30 recém-nascidos, 15 baixo peso e 15 com peso normal para o nascimento em uma maternidade pública de referência. A análise estatística foi feita por meio dos softwares SPSS V20 e Minitab 16, com análises descritivas e de associações utilizando o Teste T de Student, teste Exato de Fisher e teste de Igualdade de duas proporções, sendo considerado p ≤ 0,05. Resultados: O GH apresentou-se maior no grupo com baixo peso ao nascer. Os valores de IGF-1 foram menores no grupo de baixo peso, porém sem significância estatística na amostra analisada. Conclusão: as crianças com baixo peso ao nascer, apresentaram elevação significativa do GH e a não elevação do IGF-1, demonstrando que baixo peso se associa diretamente a síndrome de resistência do GH.
