Introduction: This study relates prematurity to linguistic impairments. Purpose: To analyze several variables related to prematurity, identifying the risk factors for language development disorders. Methods: Medical records of 98 preterm-born children (1 to 6 years) were analyzed. Data on language development (DENVER II test) and several variables, such as gestational age, length of hospital stay and postnatal complications were collected. From the Denver II test results, the sample was divided into two groups: G1: 28 children with risk factors for linguistic impairment; G2: 70 children without risk factors for linguistic impairment. Regression models and Fisher test (α=0,05) were used for statistical inferences. Results: The presence of peri-intraventricular hemorrhage (PIVH) or bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), maternal age less than 18 years, birth weight less than 1000g and long hospital stay were identified as risk factors for language development. There was also an association between risk for language disorders and the presence of risk in motor and social areas. Conclusion: Prematurity itself cannot be assigned as a risk factor for language development. In such cases, the variables associated with prematurity must be further assessed, limiting the involved risk factors. In this study, the presence of PIVH, BPD, maternal age less than 18 years, birth weight less than 1000 grams and long hospital stay were identified as risk factors for language development.

O estudo teve por objetivo mapear a produção científica sobre os fatores de risco para atraso no desenvolvimento neuromotor infantil. Trata-se de um estudo de revisão, utilizando análise bibliométrica, buscando mensurar os índices de produção e disseminação do conhecimento científico, sobre os fatores de risco para atraso no desenvolvimento neuromotor infantil. A busca dos artigos foi realizada nas bases de dados PubMed, SciELO, PEDro, LILACS, utilizando os descritores: fatores de risco, desenvolvimento infantil, e, crianças, nas línguas portuguesa, inglesa e espanhola, considerando o período de 2015 a 2020. Inicialmente, foram encontrados 3121 artigos. Destes, foram incluídos no presente estudo 37 artigos. Os fatores de risco mais citados foram: baixa escolaridade materna, baixo nível socioeconômico familiar e pouca disponibilidade de recursos para a estimulação da criança. Dos artigos selecionados apenas 13 foram publicados em periódicos com fator de impacto, e, ainda, observou-se um declínio na produção científica acerca do tema com o passar dos anos. Os resultados indicam a necessidade de mais estudos, com rígidos critérios metodológico, para que possam ser publicados em revistas com bom fator de impacto, facilitando o alcance de um maior público, e, possibilitar a elaboração de políticas públicas de saúde. Vale ressaltar, que para elaboração de políticas públicas eficazes, buscando proporcionar o desenvolvimento infantil de forma integral, é fundamental que haja o embasamento técnico-científico sobre os fatores de risco que interferem nesse processo. Tal embasamento deve ser encontrado na literatura, em estudos de qualidade e confiabilidade.

Introduction: Preterm infants are vulnerable to developmental delays. Detecting problems at an early age is one of the challenges of professionals and researchers in the area. Objective: To analyse the motor development and to identify the risk factors associated with predictors of overall and motor delay in preterm newborns. Methods: Eighty preterm infants (50% female; mean gestational age = 33 ± 2.2 weeks) with low birth weight (average of 1,715 ± 437 g) were evaluated using the Neurobehavioral Assessment of the Preterm Infant (NAPI) during the neonatal phase (prior to term age), the Denver Developmental Screening Test II (DDST-II) between 2 and 8 months, the Test of Infant Motor Performance between 2 and 4 months regarding motor development and the Alberta Infant Motor Scale between 4 and 8 months. Results: Neurobehavioural delay was noted in 24% of the infants in the neonatal phase. Between 2 and 8 months, the delay in overall development was ≥ 31% and the delay in motor development was 35-36 %. Decreased levels of alertness, orientation, motor development and vigour according to the NAPI were shown to be predictive of a delay in development between 4 and 6 months of age. The delay in overall development between 2 and 6 months was predictive of a delay in motor development between 6 and 8 months. Conclusion: Neurobehavioural variables, hospital stay and overall delay are good predictors of motor development during the first year of age.
