This article communicates general results of a national study on high school occupations in Brazil in 2015 and 2016. It aimed to interpret the meanings of the participation of teenagers in this student movement, highlighting the characterization of the subjects who played a leading role in the occupations and educational, family, and political trajectory. The methodology employed included qualitative and quantitative analysis of 80 semi-structured interviews granted in 2019 and 2020 by young people from 10 different states, who were high school students in 2015 and 2016 and occupied their schools. The analysis was guided by the following categories: political subjectification, (Jacques Rancière’s), meaning (González Rey’s), and trajectory (inspired by Lahire and Bourdieu). The results: revealed the popular character of the movement; female students’ protagonism, and the decisive influence of the occupation experience in the definition of educational trajectories, among others aspects.

This paper analyses the students’ experience in relation to schools occupancy movements in 2015 and their perceptions and opinions on educational policy of the State of São Paulo from 1995 to 2018. We conducted a documentary and bibliographic research on São Paulo’s educational policy and interviews with former high school students who participated in schools occupancy. The concept of “experience” is used for the analysis of empirical material and the notion of New Public Management (NPM) under the influence of neoliberalism is used to understand educational policy. We verified that students, based on their experiences, formulated criticisms and expectations regarding the programs and projects of the São Paulo State Secretariat of Education (SEE-SP). They are criticisms that defend a universal, plural and democratic school as opposed to managerialism and the New Public Management.

Resumo A partir do acompanhamento de uma trajetória de vida juvenil, buscou-se apreender de que forma e quais experiências colaboram para constituir jovens mais ativos socialmente - em uma perspectiva gramsciniana: intelectuais orgânicos/as. Questiona-se, portanto: quais seriam as experiências que incidem/incidiram sobre as vidas juvenis que contribuem/contribuíram para a construção de processos na direção da emancipação social? Assim, utilizou-se do acompanhamento singular e territorial — tecnologia social descrita e elaborada pela terapia ocupacional social — resultando nas descrições e análises de situações para que uma jovem engendrasse movimentos de catarse, destacando sua participação em ações de extensão universitária, ambientes virtuais, grêmio estudantil e atividades vinculadas ao programa de iniciação científica do ensino médio (PIBIC-EM). Projeta-se que este estudo ofereça referências para estratégias de fortalecimento das redes de jovens e fomento a criação e ampliação de diferentes espaços coletivos por onde os jovens transitam, sejam eles presenciais ou virtuais, de tal modo que possam enfrentar as diferentes vulnerabilidades que cercam seus cotidianos.
