Evaluation of TiO2 and ZnO atomic layer deposition coated polyamide 66 fabrics for photocatalytic activity and antibacterial applications

Abstract: Atomic layer deposition (ALD) is a versatile technique to functionalize textile substrates due to its ability to create conformal films on the fibers’ surface. Photocatalytic activity and antibacterial activity of TiO2 and ZnO films deposited onto polyamide 66 fabrics were investigated. ALD coated fabrics were examined to eliminate Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria with ISO 20645 and AATCC 100 standard methods. Both materials were only slightly successful for the elimina… Show more

“…The absence of new peaks and the IR inactive of the heterojunction indicate the lack of chemical reactivity be tween Au@Cu2O-ZnO and PA66.It is noteworthy that, as the content of the heterostructure increased, the C=O stretching vibration band of PA66 decreased relative to the -CH2 band This is due to the coordination of metal ions with the C=O peak, which reduced the stretch ing vibration of C=O. This alteration affected the intensity of the characteristic peak at 1629 cm −1 [33,34]. Figure 5a illustrates the FTIR-ATR spectra of pure PA66 and PA66/Au@Cu 2 O-ZnO composites.…”

“…The TiO 2 and fabric composites can be fabricated by various methods, such as hydrothermal reaction [9], sol-gel [10], self-assembly [11] and immersion precipitation [12]. So far, some types of fabrics like cellulose [13], polypropylene (PP) [14], polyester (PET) [15], polyamide (PA) [16], polyacrylonitrile (PAN) [17] and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) [18] have been reported to be able to load TiO 2 NPs and form nanocomposites.…”
