“…36 The Oxford Grade is one of the staining scales more widely used in the clinic for corneal staining classification. [37][38][39] Although conjunctival staining < 2 in the Efron grading was suggested to be not considered clinically significant it may affect the level of comfort in contact lens wearers. 3,40 In concordance with present results, previous studies have found an increase in the corneal and conjunctival staining during monthly contact lens use during six months 27 or with a monthly and daily lenses combination during two months.…”

“…Recently, a more detailed study by Gumus et al reported a higher frequency of changes in all Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI, Schirmer I, Schirmer II, and BUT) scores in patients with chronic hepatitis C than in noninfected individuals in an age-and sex-matched sample (42) .…”

“…The pathogenesis of dry eye in patients with HCV in fection involves the destruction of glandular cells, possibly by antigenic reactions to immunocomplexes produced by viral antigens and specific antibodies or by the direct action of the virus (32,42) . Other possibilities suggest that lymphocytic infiltration of the lacrimal gland (45,46) or modification of corneal sensitivity occurs due to sensory alterations in the trigeminal nerve, reducing tear production (43) .…”

“…Measuring the ne structure of the retina and choroid (11,12,13) has demonstrated strengths in diagnosing and re ecting disease progression in conditions such as optic neuritis ( 14), Alzheimer's disease (15), diabetic retinopathy (16), thyroid-related eye disease (17), and Parkinson's disease (18). However, the characterization of retinopathy in cirrhosis remains limited, and previous studies have documented ocular pathologies associated with cirrhosis, such as dry eye (19), vitamin A de ciency (20) and color blindness (21). These ocular pathologies, including elevated complement levels and immune complex deposition, as well as circulatory abnormalities and other contributing factors, have been linked to diseases of the immune system.…”
