This work was done at Sakha Agricultural Research Station,during 2018 and 2019 seasons.The aim was evaluating cottonseed oil content,yield and its components and fiber traits of some Egyptian genotypes to improve seed oil content with the other economic traits during selection of new promising crosses.Eighteen extra-long staple genotypes were planted in a randomized complete block design with four replications.Traits studied were:Boll weight,seed cotton,lint and seed yields,lint%,seed index,fiber fineness,strength,length,length uniformity index,seed oil content and seed oil index. Results indicated high level of variability among genotypes in all traits.Most of traits differed significantly from one year to another;genotypes x years interactions were significant for some traits.Genotypes were divided into four groups according to their oil content:high,moderately high, moderately low and low oil content.Phenotypic and genotypic variances showed wide variability in the studied traits, moderate PCV values were recorded for seed cotton, lint and seed yields, GCV showed low values in all traits, suggesting the difficulty of manipulating these traits through plant breeding. Heritability recorded high values for: lint%, fiber fineness and seed index. None of the studied traits showed high expected genetic advance under selection. Seed oil content and seed oil index showed positive significant correlation with seed index, fiber strength and length uniformity index, whereas correlation was significant negative with lint yield and lint%. The highest oil content was achieved by three genotypes "G.93 x [G.76 x (G.45 × sea Island)]", (G.93 x G.87) and Giza 92, the three genotypes might be used to improve oil content in Egyptian cottonseed.

The inheritance of leaf shape vis-a-vis specific leaf area and genetic parameter determining various morpho-yield related traits were studied in F 2 populations of F2382 X CO17 and PBH115 x CO17 Wherein the female parent has okra type leaf and the male parent has a normal leaf. Leaf type was supposed to exhibit simple inheritance for 1:2:1 for normal leaf type, sub-okra leaf type and okra phenotypes showing incomplete dominance in both crosses. However, an attempt to associate leaf types with specific leaf areas across the segregants did not show any specific pattern indicating complexity in deducing the inheritance of specific leaf areas. Plant height, the number of bolls/plant and seed cotton yield per plant were highly variable traits. High heritability was observed for the traits viz., plant height, boll weight, ginning out turn, upper half mean length and uniformity ratio in both the crosses.

P akistan is the 4 th largest cotton producing and 3 rd cotton consuming country, however, the yield is low as compared other cotton producing countries (Nazir et al., 2020). The main reason of low yielding potential of existing germplasm is influence of biotic and abiotic factors and cotton production can be manage by introduction of new cotton varieties. Pakistan is leading in exporting cotton yarn and third in the export of raw material of the cotton crop worldwide (Nizamani et al., 2017). The nation of Pakistan largely depends on cotton industries with relation to textile sector. This fiber crop is on the top Abstract | The current investigations were carried out during 2016-2017 to determine genetic variability, heritability, and genetic gain in nine F 4 segregating populations for morphological, yield and fiber quality related traits in upland cotton. Significant differences were observed among genotypes, parents, F 4 populations and parents x F 4 populations for all the studied attributes which articulated greater genetic variation in the breeding material. Heritability estimates were moderate to high for all the traits. The F 4 population CRIS-134 x FH-113 displayed the highest heritability estimates for plant height (95.24%). The maximum heritability for sympodial branches plant -1 (85.30%) and seed index (82.02%) were exhibited by the F 4 population CRIS-342 x IR-3701. The F 4 population CRIS-342 x Neelum-121 manifested the highest heritability values for bolls plant -1 (90.81%) and boll weight (96.85%). For seed cotton yield plant -1 and ginning outturn, the highest heritability values (90.08 and 90.20%) were confirmed by the F 4 population CRIS-342 x MNH-886. For staple length, the promising heritability was discovered in the F 4 population CRIS-134 x Neelum-121 (85.45%). Genetic gain values were low to high for all traits. Results suggested that above F 4 populations indicated their potential for various yield and fiber traits through heritability coupled with genetic gain to be used in future breeding programs for improving seed cotton yield and fiber quality traits in upland cotton.
