“…This was in accordance with the studies by Lathi et al [27], and Zafar et al [28] where second to fourth decade was most commonly affected. However, Chaaban et al [29] showed an increased incidence in older age group with a mean onset of 42.5 years. Nasal polyps had slight predilection for males in our study, (male:female ratio of 1.3:1).…”

“…370 Staphylococcus aureus is a common organism in polypoid RS, and may modify these disease processes as a direct pathogen or via superantigen production. 903,925,1084,1093,1094 S. aureus colonization is more prevalent in AFRS vs other CRSwNP subtypes. 925 Vitamin D 3 levels are also decreased in CRSwNP and AFRS, with levels inversely correlating with bone erosion.…”

“…1077,1083 Dematiaceous fungi and Aspergillus are commonly identified, but fungi are diverse and vary based on geographical region. 1073,1075,1076,1081,1083,1084 Interestingly, correlation between fungal species in mucin and systemic fungal allergy was poor in 1 Australian study. 370 Clinically, AFRS tends to be a more severe form of CRSwNP.…”

“…1 The incidence of CRSwNP is approximately one-tenth of the incidence of CRSsNP. 2 The prevalence of CRSwNP is ϳ1%, whereas the prevalence of CRSsNP is less clear but estimated at approximately 10-fold higher.…”
