Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy for Isolated Systems with High Penetration of Renewable Generation

Abstract: Inhabited islands depend primarily on fossil fuels for electricity generation and they also present frequently a vehicle fleet, which result in a significant environmental problem. To address this, several governments are investing in the integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) and Electric Vehicles (EVs), but the combined integration of them creates challenges to the operation of these isolated grid systems. Thus, the aim of this paper is to propose an Electric Vehicle charging strategy considering hig… Show more

“…It was concluded that the possibilities for EB and ET smart charging are different and that a specific charging tariff with a high peak-valley price gap is compulsory to obtain benefits from EV smart charging. The authors of [107] proposed a charging strategy for both EBs and ETs for isolated systems with high penetration of renewable generation. Based on the proposed pricing, which maximized renewable generation use, the methodology optimized the charging load of EBs and ETs in the case study of Santa Cruz, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador.…”

“…However, because RES projects imply long investment cycles the average annual values are of importance. Also, the potential of a renewable source can be determined only approximately [2]. This means that the results of the mapping can be applied to the current research.…”

“…The first is usually rather difficult in emerging economies due to the increasing commercial demand and extensive character of industrialization [1]. Moreover, demand grows with the increase in population and global economic growth [2][3][4][5], while the development of RES seems to be a promising stream [6].…”
