Efficacy of Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) and Highly Purified Bovine Xenograft (Laddec®) Combination in Bone Regeneration after Cyst Enucleation: Radiological and Histological Evaluation

Abstract: Objectives: The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of adding platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to a new highly purified bovine allograft (Laddec ® ) in the bone regeneration of cystic bony defects augmented following cystectomy. Material and Methods: Study sample included 20 patients undergoing cystectomy in which the bone defect was filled with PRP and Laddec ® . All patients were examined with periapical radiographs before operation and at follow-up. After 3 months, at re-entry surgery for im… Show more

“…Bone augmentation and implant insertion is performed later, months or years after tooth removal; however, alveolar preservation may prevent the need of bone replacement [26]. Bone grafting after cystectomy is also a preventive approach so as to facilitate the possibility of oral rehabilitation [27]. This presented case demonstrates that bone grafting can also be an option associated with surgical removal of odontoma.…”

“…PRP was also reported to be effective in stopping capillary bleeding in the surgical flaps of a series of 20 patients undergoing various types of cosmetic surgery (face lift, breast size changes, or neck lifts) . The beneficial use of PRP have also been reported in patients affected by Romberg syndrome as well as in bone regeneration of intrabony defects . However, in attempts to regenerate damaged tissues, one has to keep in mind the risks that can be associated with use of factors that promote epithelial migration, angiogenesis and matrix deposition (e.g., recurrence, growth and invasion of a pre‐existing tumor).…”

“…4 Same doses (2 mL) of PRP or saline (with a 20 Gneedle in sterilized 2.5 mL dental injector) injection has been given to the patients in both groups for the activation of merocel packs. Prior to the start of the surgery, 20 mL of blood was drawn intravenously from patients and collected in sterile vacuum tube coated with anticoagulant citric acid and dextrose.…”
