Effects of Sublethal Concentrations of Cyantraniliprole on the Development, Fecundity and Nutritional Physiology of the Black Cutworm Agrotis ipsilon (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Abstract: To better understand the sublethal effects of cyantraniliprole on the black cutworm Agrotis ipsilon (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), several studies were carried out to investigate sublethal effects on development stages, population parameters, feeding indices and nutrient content of A. ipsilon. The result of a bioassay showed that cyantraniliprole had high toxicity against A. ipsilon fourth-instar larvae with an LC50 of 0.354 μg.g−1 using an artificial diet. Compared with controls, sublethal doses of cyantraniliprol… Show more

“…for S. frugiperda (0.068 µg mL −1 ), but higher than the LC 50 for P. xylostella (0.230 µg mL −1 ) determined by Han et al . and the LC 50 for Agrotis ipsilon (Hufnagel) (0.354 µg g −1 ) derived by Xu et al . Because chlorantraniliprole has a unique mode of action, high insecticidal activity and low mammalian toxicity, it is recommended for lepidopteran pest control in commercial agricultural applications.…”

“…Ciantraniliprole demonstrated sublethal effects upon A. ipsilon, reducing nutritional parameters, including lipids, carbohydrates and proteins, affecting larvae development [37]. This same insecticide was also found to reduce the activity of esterase enzymes, glutathione S-transferase and oxidases of Spodoptera exigua (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) [38].…”

“…The use of fertility life table bioassays demonstrated that sublethal concentrations of cyantraniliprole decreased growth speed and reduced population reproduction of A. ipsilon [37]. Fertility life tables for the evaluation of sublethal concentrations of chlorantraniliprole also demonstrated prolonged larval duration and the pupal stages of lepidopteran pests such as O. furnacalis and P. xylostella [56,57].…”

“…On the other hand, Hassan, 2009;El-Naggar 2013;ElSheikh 2015 andRashwann, 2013) found that chloranitraniliprole, emamectin-benzoate and indoxacarb significantly decreased the nutrition indicates and utilization of food. In addition Chunmei Xu et al (2016) showed that cyantraniliprole had markedly antifeedant effects against 4 th instar larvae of Agrotis ipsilon, which relatively decreased the same parameters of nutrition indices and utilization food.…”

“…Abdel-Hafez and Osman (2013) found that emamectin-benzoate and pyridalyl decreased pupal weight, pupation and adult emergence percentages of S. littoralis. Also, Chunmei Xu et al (2016) stated that sublethal doses of cyantraniliprole at LC 5 , LC 20, and LC 40 levels prolonged larval and pupal duration and extended mean generation time and total preovipositional period of Agrotis ipsilon.…”
