Effect of polymorphic variants of GH, Pit-1, and β-LG genes on milk production of Holstein cows

Abstract: Effect of polymorphic variants of growth hormone (GH), β lactoglobulin (β LG), and Pit 1 genes on milk yield was analyzed in a Holstein herd. Genotypes of the cows for these genes were determined by polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR RFLP) method. Allele frequen cies were 0.884 and 0.116 for L and V variants of GH, 0.170 and 0.830 for A and B variants of Pit 1, and 0.529 and 0.471 for A and B variants of β LG, respectively. GLM procedure of SAS software was used to test the… Show more

“…The variant AA of the beta-LGB gene had a very large positive effect on MY. This result is consistent with those of many previous studies (e.g., Heidari et al, 2012). The variant AB of the kappa-casein gene showed a very large effect on the percentages of fat, protein, solids-not-fat, and total solid.…”

“…The Korean cattle, Bos taurus, is a breed native to the Korean peninsula and the Japanese islands, and is considered to descend from a breed of European cattle (Seong et al, 2012) In a previous study, Leptin (LEP), beta-lactoglobulin (LGB) and Prolactin receptor (PRLR) were shown to be genes that are associated with milk production traits in cattle (Ruheena, et al, 2011;Shi, et al, 2011;Heidari, et al, 2012;Tanpure, et al, 2012). LEP, the fat derived protein hormone, has a variety of physiological functions such as regulation of feed intake, energy balance, and fertility and immune functions (Tanpure et al, 2012).…”

“…On the other hand, Heidari et al (13) demonstrated that individuals with a VV genotype had milk yields higher than those of individuals of other genotypes, but also indicated that this difference was statistically insignificant. In their study, in which they investigated the correlation between the GH1-MspI polymorphism and milk yield in Holstein cattle, Zhou et al (14) determined that individuals with an AA genotype had a higher milk yield than individuals with an AB genotype, and suggested that the GH1-MspI polymorphism could be used for the improvement of milk yield traits.…”
