An automated data-centric infrastructure, Process Informatics Model (PrIMe), was applied to validation and optimization of a syngas combustion model. The Bound-to-Bound Data Collaboration (B2BDC) module of PrIMe was employed to discover the limits of parameter modifications based on uncertainty quantification (UQ) and consistency analysis of the model−data system and experimental data, including shock-tube ignition delay times and laminar flame speeds. Existing syngas reaction models are reviewed, and the selected kinetic data are described in detail. Empirical rules were developed and applied to evaluate the uncertainty bounds of the literature experimental data. The initial H 2 /CO reaction model, assembled from 73 reactions and 17 species, was subjected to a B2BDC analysis. For this purpose, a dataset was constructed that included a total of 167 experimental targets and 55 active model parameters. Consistency analysis of the composed dataset revealed disagreement between models and data. Further analysis suggested that removing 45 experimental targets, 8 of which were self-inconsistent, would lead to a consistent dataset. This dataset was subjected to a correlation analysis, which highlights possible directions for parameter modification and model improvement. Additionally, several methods of parameter optimization were applied, some of them unique to the B2BDC framework. The optimized models demonstrated improved agreement with experiments compared to the initially assembled model, and their predictions for experiments not included in the initial dataset (i.e., a blind prediction) were investigated. The results demonstrate benefits of applying the B2BDC methodology for developing predictive kinetic models.

It is pointed out in the literature that the vacuum chamber has the effect of explosion suppression. The effect of explosion suppression depends on the volume of the vacuum chamber, while the vacuum degree has little effect on the performance of explosion suppression. Inspired by this, to explore a new method of gas explosion suppression, a rectangular steel cavity with a wall thickness of 10 mm, a length of 500 mm, a width of 800 mm, and a height of 200 mm was designed. The cavity was installed in a pipeline system to carry out experimental research and to investigate the law of attenuation of gas explosion flames and shock wave overpressure after passing through the cavity. The results show that the single cavity has the function of flame-out and wave attenuation, which attenuates the explosion flame and shock wave overpressure by 42.5% and 11%, respectively, and that the dual cavity further improves the performance of flame-out and wave attenuation, which attenuates flame and shock wave overpressure by 75.4% and 26.7%, respectively. On the basis of the experimental study, a numerical model was established, and a numerical simulation was carried out under the same conditions as the experimental study. The results show that the single cavity inhibits the propagation of the shock wave and attenuates the shock wave overpressure by 10.61%. The dual cavity further improves the suppression performance and attenuates the shock wave overpressure by 28.88%. Finally, by simulating the propagation process of the gas explosion shock wave and flame in the cavity, the mechanism of inhibiting gas explosion propagation by the cavity structure is analyzed.

Abstract:In this study, the e ect of swirl number, gas composition and CO dilution on combustion and emission behaviour of CNG/H /CO gas mixtures was experimentally investigated in a laboratory scale combustor. Irrespective of the gas composition, thermal power of the combustor was kept constant (5 kW). All experiments were conducted at or near stoichiometric and the local atmospheric conditions of the city of Kayseri, Turkey. During experiments, swirl number was varied and the combustion performance of this combustor was analysed by means of centreline temperature distributions. On the other hand, emission behaviour was examined with respect to emitted CO, CO and NOx levels. Dynamic ame behaviour was also evaluated by analysing instantaneous ame images. Results of this study revealed the great impact of swirl number and gas composition on combustion and emission behaviour of studied ames.
