Effect of dietary resveratrol in ameliorating aflatoxin B1‐induced changes in broiler birds

Abstract: Consumption of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) contaminated feed by poultry affects the health of broiler birds causing severe economic losses. The use of phytochemicals is a safe, effective, alternative and practical approach to combat the toxic effect of AF in broilers. Resveratrol, a polyphenol derived from red grapes, berries and peanuts, exerts anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immunomodulatory effects. Our study was aimed at evaluating the possible protective effects of resveratrol against the adverse effects of AF… Show more

“…Mycosorbents are able to bind aflatoxin molecules in the gastrointestinal tract and thus, to reduce their absorption by domestic fowl. The results agree with data from other studies with mycosorbents as clinoptiolite (Oguz et al, 2003), hydrated calcium aluminosilicate (HSCAS), sodium bentonite, montmorillonite (Ologhobo et al, 2015), essential oils (Saei et al, 2013), antioxidants (resveratrol) (Sridhar et al, 2015) and probiotics (Zuo et al, 2013).…”

“…The result of GOT2 gene expression in PC. group was consistent with the findings of Sridhar et al [39] which showed the increasing of AST serum levels by consuming aflatoxin contaminated diets. Also L., B., Y. and BLY.…”

“…In the study of Sridhar et al. (), supplementation of resveratrol (at a level of 1% of diet) improved the antioxidative status of serum in broilers, both without and with further treatment with aflatoxin B1. In that study, dietary treatment with resveratrol, however, impaired body weight gains and feed conversion ratio.…”
