Effect of Banana Extract on Growth and Development of Protocorm Like Bodies in Dendrobium sp. orchid

Abstract: An experiment was carried out in Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, Department of Crop Botany, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh to investigate the effect of banana extract on micropropagation of Dendrobium sp. var. Sonia orchid through PLBs. The experiment was conducted during July 2012 to October 2013. Half-Murashige and Skoog (1/2MS) medium were used as basal medium and the medium was supplemented with banana extract at 12.5, 25, 50, 100, and 200 ml L-1 with a control, where n… Show more

“…Islam et al [46] investigated the effects of different BH concentrations (0, 2.5, 5, 10, and 20%; w/v) on the growth and development of PLBs Dendrobium sp. and showed that ½ MS medium supplemented with 10% BH was the most suitable for PLBs regeneration.…”

“…For number of leaves and roots, the interaction culture medium x irradiance showed higher values in the combination B100 + 3,000 K-1, averaging 15.75 leaves and 12.83 roots. When studying the in vitro culture of Dendrobium sp., Islam et al (2015) observed that the use of 100 g L -1 or 200 g L -1 of banana decreased the number of leaves, in comparison to the media without the additive (Figure 1).…”
