Introduction: Tooth extraction causes tissue damage around the socket. Wound healing is essential for repairing damaged tissues. One of the medicinal plants often used is ant-plant (Hydnophytum formicarum), which contains flavonoids, triterpenoids, saponins and tannins. This research was aimed to determine the effect of ant-plant ethanol extract on the density of collagen fibers for wound healing after tooth extraction in the guinea pig (Cavia cobaya). Methods: The type of research was true experimental with a post-test only control group design. The study used 48 male guinea pig divided into 4 groups. Experimental groups received lower left incisor extraction, the control group was orally administered with 0.5% CMC, and the treatment group was administered with ant-plant extract dissolved with 0.5% CMC with dose of 4.65 mg, 6.2 mg, and 9.3 mg respectively; each guinea pig was given 3 cc of the extract 3 times a day until the termination day. On day 3, 7, 14, and 21 respectively, the guinea pigs were terminated and to make the histological preparations. The difference in collagen fibers density of the two observation groups was tested with one-way ANOVA, and the LSD test to analyse the significance between groups. Results: Application of ant-nest ethanol extract showed significant effects on the density of collagen fibers in the wound healing process after tooth extraction. Results of the one-way ANOVA test showed significant value on all treatment groups (p < 0.05). There were also found significant differences between the control group and the treatment group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Ant-plant (Hydnophytum formicarum) ethanol extract increase the collagen fibers density on the wound healing after tooth extraction with the effective dose of 4.65 mg.Keywords: Ant-plant, Hydnophytum formicarum, wound healing, collagen, guinea pig, Cavia cobaya.

Background: A prolonged tooth extraction socket healing process can affect the well-being of the patient and increase the risk of infection. Fibroblast proliferation in the proliferation phase is an important stage in the healing process. Fibroblast formed from extracellular matrix and collagen fibers support bone formation in the socket. Breadfruit leaves, extremely common in Indonesia, contain polyphenol, flavonoid, tannin and alkaloid substances which accelerate the wound healing process because of their anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties. A previous study showed that 16% breadfruit leaf gel extract administered to Wistar rats produced an encouraging anti-inflammatory effect, but its capacity for increasing fibroblast proliferation remains to be fully understood. Purpose: The aim of this study was to observe the effect of applying breadfruit leaf extract on fibroblast proliferation on the healing process in tooth extraction sockets. A preliminary phytochemical study was undertaken. Methods: 24 Wistar rats were divided into four groups: two control groups and two experimental groups. 16% breadfruit leaf gel extract was applied to the experimental groups, while none was applied to the control groups. The number of fibroblasts was counted on both the third and fifth days post-extraction. Data was analyzed statistically using an independent T-test. Results: There were significant differences in the number of post-extraction fibroblasts in Wistar rat tooth sockets on day 3 (p=0.000; p < α=0.05) and day 5 (p=0.000; p < α=0.05). Conclusion: Breadfruit leaf gel extract application increases fibroblast proliferation during the healing process in the tooth extraction sockets of Wistar rats.

Getah pohon pisang digunakan di daerah pedesaan di Indonesia untuk obat-obatan penyembuhan luka tradisional. Namun, laporan ilmiah tentang efek penyembuhan luka menggunakan bahan ini relatif sedikit. Ekstrak getah batang pisang mengandung flavonoid, tanin, saponin, dan alkaloid sebagai antioksidan untuk mengurangi radikal bebas dengan mentransfer atom hidrogen pada daerah luka serta meningkatkan penutupan luka dengan memproduksi jumlah fibroblas dan meningkatkan pembentukan pembuluh-pembuluh kapiler darah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak getah pohon pisang terhadap penyembuhan luka pasca pencabutan gigi dengan menggunakan parameter penilaian penyembuhan luka serta untuk mengetahui konsentrasi ekstrak etanol getah batang pisang yang dapat memberikan efek optimal terhadap penyembuhan luka soket pasca pencabutan. Metode: Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan eksperimental laboratorium murni dengan rancangan posttest only control grup design dengan menggunakan sampel 25 tikus wistar, yang masing-masing diberi 5 perlakuan selama 7 hari. Gigi insisivus kiri bawah diekstraksi, kemudian soket diberi perlakuan dengan kontrol negatif (aquades), kontrol positif (povidone iodine) dan ekstrak getah batang pisang pada konsentrasi 15%, 30% dan 60%. Hasil: Hasil penelitian ini efektif dan optimal pada penyembuhan luka soket pada konsentrasi 30% serta ekstrak getah pohon pisang lebih efektif untuk mempercepat penyembuhan ekstraksi pasca soket gigi dibandingkan dengan povidone iodine. Simpulan: Pemberian ekstrak etanol getah pohon pisang secara topical efektif dan optimal dalam proses penyembuhan luka soket pasca pencabutan gigi tikus wistar yaitu pada konsentrasi 30%. Ekstrak etanol getah pohon pisang juga lebih efektif mempercepat penyembuhan luka soket pasca pencabutan gigi dibandingkan dengan povidone iodine.
